    Recaro seat dye/restoration

    Hey Guys,

For those of you that might have already gone through this with your Recaro's, I'm looking to freshen mine up. They're starting to look a little tired. Still in good shape but I've got some of the typical wear/creasing on the bolsters and the colour has worn away in some of the creases. A lot of research has pointed me to leatherique. I already bought the rejuvenator and pristine clean for the creases, and now I'm looking for the correct leather dye to add the colour back to where it's worn away. So in my search for the correct dye colour, I have two questions:

    1. What's the correct colour code/name for the all black leather recaros. I've heard "Napa Black", "Ebony", and "Soul" to describe the black in our interiors. It could be that they're all correct for the different parts of our interiors but I'm not sure what the Recaro's are to order the correct dye colour to match.

    2. What did you end up using/doing?

    Thanks!

Nappa is a type of leather: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napa_leather. It's can be died many colours.
The name of our the black S4 seat leather covers is Soul: https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B6_S4...ront/ES440095/.

Leatherique is fantastic. Start there. You can also check with the Robert @ LeatheriqueCanada.com on what he'd recommend. He is very knowledgeable.

I picked up a set of Recaros, but with white/pearl Alcantara inserts and that's a lot more pain to find than dealing with whole leather. But I digress.

    Awesome, thanks eljay!

I was pretty sure that the Napa was the type of leather but decided to throw all my cards on the table since I wasn't 100% sure. I have Robert's business card that was included in my Leatherique order, I'll give him a call. And Soul it is!

If/when I get through this DIY I'll share my process and results here.

    Thanks again!

I had my inserts re-upholstered with genuine charcoal Alcantara and the bolsters dyed at the same tme by a local same shop.

If you're not in a hurry and can try to find out which due he used when I go back to drop off my rears, the dye he used matches perfectly.

Sure that would be great! I have a little time before the show I want to enter my car in (early September), so not too long. I'll still give Robert a call to see what he says.

The Alcantara was ~200$ You buy 1 yard of pannel and 1 yard of cover (seating portion) This is only for the front, if you're doing front and rears get 1.5/1.5 or a bit more to be safe.

The upholsterer did alot of seats for me so he gives me great prices, he charged me 335$ to re-upholster the fronts, dye the bolsters and upholster my armrest in Nappa black leather.

    Pics are fun:

The dye used on my seats didnt change the feel of the leather. However, I know the dye (duplicilor for example) you can buy in rattle cans can make the leather harder to the touch. I wouldn't want to ruin Nappa leather with this stuff.

So I ordered a dye off amazon. It's supposed to be an exact match, hopefully it is...

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DBX8AKE..._1KpYxb0BJGZ50

It'll take a week or so to arrive, once I get it I'll give it a go and let you know how it goes.

Hey Guys, the dye arrived on Friday. I'll try to do a test spot some time this week and will report back with my findings, along with before and after pics.

    Cheers,
    Claudio

Is the dye for just color touch up? If so, what might you guys recommend to bring back the luster of the leather? I've got some decent wear on my drivers seat?

I'd suggest you do what I'm going to do. I purchased the Leatherique Rejuvenator and Pristine Clean. They're proven products that have been around for a long time. Google it, there are a ton of threads and Youtube clips on it. And afterwards find a product like the Colourlock or similar product (see link above on Amazon where I got mine from). Again, just Google it, lots of info/instructions out there.
