BT 3" MAF Housing for 1.8t AEB

This has probably been covered too many times, but I keep reading mixed advice and having a hard time finding them using these terms "obd1 VR6 MAF" "MK3 VR6 MAF" etc... stores/ebay don't really use that terminology it seems. How do I actually find what I need?

Also, I've read mixed advice on this. Everyone says VR6. Some say MK3, some say MK4. Which is the one that works with the stock sensor? Is this the right part number? 0280217512

You use what the tune requires.

Generally AEB tunes use the MK3 VR6 MAF housing (with the stock AEB sensor mounted into it). AWM tunes typically use the MK4 VR6 MAF housing (again using the AWM MAF sensor).
I'm pretty sure OBD1 = MK3 as far as the VR6 goes, but don't quote me on that.

How come you're looking at a different MAF sensor housing? As Seerlah pointed out, only change it to match a new tune.

Just did this on my AEB a while back, an obd1 vr6 MAF housing is indeed what you need.

It is technically possible to install a larger MAF housing without a tune, however it requires matching the increase in size with injectors that are the same exact size difference.

The vr6 MAF is 1.36% increase which means that you'll need to find injectors that flow 285.6cc@3 bar or 326.4cc@4 bar.

Thing is, you'll still be running at the stock 9-10psi boost that the ecu calls for, so you won't really experience any real difference... Even if you go to a ko4-015. If you move up to a turbo that's big enough to make much of a difference at 10psi, the boost profile will be so different that the ecu will see that something is different.

So while it is possible, it isn't recommended at all.
