Black rtv might work. Is it a metal gasket originally?

No. This is a black rubber gasket that wedges between the thermoswitch and the oil cooler. The thermoswitch allows oil to flow to the front mounted oil radiator at a certain temp.

Edit: was thinking of using the RED high temp gasket maker... Found this: 078 115 441 sealing washer 62X5,4 on http://www.vaglinks.com/Docs/Audi/B5...artNumbers.pdf

Guess I can call the dealer or order from overseas.
