    DV Harness Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

Long story, I had a stupid mechanic change the DV on my car last year and he broke the clip on the harness that connects to DV. He still plugged it back in.

Was changing my snub mount today and noticed the harness was disconnected and just hanging. Reconnected it but it would most likely fall back again.

Anyone know if it can be replaced?

Also how come my car drove fine with it disconnected? Had no problems with boost/power...

Call your local dealer and ask them to send you the harness. It's not expensive, mine didn't even charge me for shipping. Not sure what the part number is unfortunately. There's a DIY on here from Phil on how to replace the harnesses.

In all honesty, what I did was wrap the DV in electrical tape and reinsert the harness. It hasn't come loose in over 15k km.

It'll only need one or two REALLY tight wraps. The reason it works is because of the heat generated from the turbo and the increased friction.

Thanks, so what's the purpose of this connector? Just curious why the car was driving fine all this time with it disconnected.

    DV Harness Question

It tells the DV to open and close. It's important for the life of your turbo and its seals.

If you've got an intake, you'd likely hear it.

You can replace the entire connector if you have a pin release tool. Replacing the entire harness seems like overkill. If it was my car I'd put a small dab of superglue on the inside of the connector and push it on. It's enough to hold it and not enough to keep you from getting it off again

I do have an intake and turbo sounded fine all this time while it was disconnected. Gonna drive it soon got it plugged back in, let's see if there's any difference.

So after reconnecting it and driving around, I don't hear the turbo anymore. I have an intake so shouldn't it be making the sound when connected? When it wasn't connected, I could hear the turbo spool and releasing.

You should continue to hear it spool, and you should definitely hear it open. You might want to check that your DV isn't actually shot. Is it holding boost?

I drove it around but no whoosh sound from my cone filter at all. I don't think it's opening DV. But it was before when the wire was disconnected. I could clearly hear the whoosh sound through the intake.

Car still pulls the same, can hear turbo spool but DV sounds like it's not opening up at all.

It was a new DV the new version installed less than a year ago. How could it go bad?

What should I do? I am not sure.

So checked it again and now I am not sure what the normal sound supposed to be with a cone filter.

With the harness disconnected from DV, I get the whoosh sound from intake which I thought was the normal sound with a cone filter, similar to this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbaZGuyVHUE

With the harness connected to DV, no more whoosh sound from the intake at all when driving. I do hear a tiny whistle sound while in neutral revving but no whoosh like before. It's like the cone filter is useless?

Just an update, DV seems to be working properly it's just way quieter than before when it was disconnected. Power seems to be the same before/after.

So turns out I drove atleast a year with the DV harness disconnected. How come no boost codes or CEL popped up during that time?

No idea why there weren't any codes. Ultimately, it was making the right boost the entire time, it just wasn't recirculating properly. And this putting more stress on your turbine housing. Part of the reason it could've been making more noise while disconnected is because you were getting compressor surge, which is BAD. Glad it's all fixed.

Ah well glad I found out it was disconnected while changing the snub mount or I would've kept driving it for many years with it disconnected. Now I can tell the sound difference if it disconnects again.

On a side note, smoother shifting with the new snub mount. I went OEM snub mount didn't get aftermarket ones that are more stiffer.
