I think the variable bearing pre-load feature is very worthwhile. The preload force on the ball bearings is developed by engine oil pressure so the bearing preload force applied to the angular contact ceramic ball bearings is optimized for different RPM ranges. Other ball bearing turbos use very high precision pressed bearings or more common, spring bearing preload. Neither of these bearing preload methods is able to provide the best bearing preload force for all bearing speeds. If enough preload is set for maximum shaft speeds, the preload will be to high for mid-range and lower turbo shaft speeds, and vice versa. The variable bearing pre load is the only aspect of the xona turbo that is a departure from standard practice.

For the lower HP range, xona installs variable pre load ceramic angular contact ball bearings in BW EFR turbos.

I'm not up on the new turbo technology. Kind of chose to stay ignorant for the time being so I wouldn't get the urge to change my setup. It's finally running so I don't want to know how newer turbos could improve my car. It would only will irritate me. I'm stuck in the HTA is the hot shit era. But I'm glad to see your car's still around and someone is still looking to experiment on our platform. The forums dead to this lately. It's all about "stance" and asking questions already answered 400x over.

Lol on the "stance". What cracks me up is having ypur car a half of an inch off the ground and thinking it's sooo cool. I must be getting old because scraping the ground when you run over a toothpick or having a ridiculous looking negative cambers is just not my idea of cool.

The same thing here, people wrap and air suspension and crazy camber. The cops though started taking action they are seizing cars, giving tickets and sending them to inspection. Every gathering or show the cops are there waiting for them to leave so yeah its tough to be a kid these days, and photo radar everywhere...since i drive the toyota echo to work i have no points taken on my license lol, cops dont bother me in that pos.
I am stil very much into my car, it will stay with me forever, but alot has happened, i got married, i bought a house and got a kid, so i have alot on my plate, but i did put time in the car slowly...i installed the stasis suspension, and while i was putting the wngine back in the car i cleaned other thing in the engine bay...one of the reasons for taking so long was that last year i put the engine on yhe stand at uniteonic, it was supposed to go on the engine dyno, they were busy with shows and other things and i was busy as well with my newborn so that didnt happen..so i took the engine home and started in spring to work on putting it in the car, and since i have a double garage now lol, i took my time to make sure that everything is done properly...
2 days ago unitronic received their maha dyno, so my car is really ready to be tuned...when hta rebuilt my turbo they did tell me that there is a bit of play in the shaft, so i am looking at options that drop in when this one goes, and xona seems to be very interesting.

Sounds like you are very much on the right track. Good luck with the build! Wife and kids come first! My car is basically all stock except for a mild tune and the usual wearable BS. I m content with it. Sometimes just keeping it running right is a challenge of its own. Just look at the "what went wrong with your b6 today" thread 😝

Glad to hear things are going good! I hear ya. Everyone on here gave me crap for never finishing mine. 6 years later and I'm back. Worth all the attention to detail on the car as well as the time focused on other more important things in life.
