Last night after doing some runs in Mexico, at certain rates of speed, my buddy and I noticed a bit of smoke coming from my engine bay. At first I thought maybe a coolant hose leak or something with fluid under pressure but it turns out my heat shield by my test pipe-downpipe had fallen down and caught fire.
the flame kicked up when I opened my hood. We grabbed as much water as we could find in my car and my buddy ran into the strip club next door to the place I stopped screaming I need water my buddies car is on fire.
Long story short we got it out quickly and there isn't any damage outside of the heat shield being burnt up.
Bought a car fire extinguisher and cleared out the remains and got it home. The shield is toasted, not useable.
Is there a better way to make a heat shield or should I just replace it with a stock one. I am going to check for exhaust leaks near the area as well to see if there was anything going but I don't want to waste my time if the stock heat shield will just rot out, fall, and burn up again.
