Supported ECU Tunings for prefacelift a4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, After looking around a bunch. It seems like the old tuning companies that most people ran with were APR, Unitronic and GIAC.
It also seems like none of those companies really support their software anymore.
For facelift cars there's motoza, but that won't work for my prefacelift obviously.

From my research it seems that reflect tuning(k0mpresd[sp?]) and United Motorsport are the only ones that do tunes they still support. And the only other option would be Maestro and doing my own tweaks.

    Is this correct?

I'm trying to do at least a stage 1 build right now, but intend on getting to a stage 3. What would y'all recommend for a ECU upgrade company for my application?

Facelift and prefacelift do not matter. So you have an AEB engine code (preface). You can get a lot of tuning done from a simple flash all the way to standalone. It's just up to you.

Also stage 1 is a flash and exhaust not a build lol.

Personally id go with united if your planning to go bigger and don't want to deal with maestro or standalone.

I run united as do quite a few other people.

Maestro isn't for beginners, it doesn't hold your hand. You can blow your engine with it. If you don't want to take the time to learn how Motronic 5.5 works, it's 100% worth the cost to have someone tune it for you. Especially if your ultimate goal is just a basic STG3 setup

    Thanks for the replies.

@MarcRogers, it matters to Motoza, as their software only supports 2001-2005. There are AZ users with 2001 B5s that use Motoza. I also realize I "can get a lot done with a simple flash...". My question was which company I should go with. Not whether it's possible. In my post I mentioned two companies that I could use. I just don't know if there are others that I missed somehow, or if not, then which of those companies would AZ-ers recommend.

    @tar, thanks for the recommendation

@Dan, I was leaning away from Maestro already since I figured it'd be overkill in terms of learning how to use it when my goals at this point probably aren't going to be out of the norm. So thanks for putting the nail in that coffin for me.

Learn something new everyday. I'd assume that's because 2001 have wideband and not narrowband? Probably more to it but that's just my guess.

I just installed the k0mpresd ECU (reflect tuning) on the weekend in my 99 1.8T and am very impressed with the difference. I have a 2.5" turbo-back exhaust w/an aftermarket cat (not high flow), no other upgrades. Installs in minutes and is relatively cheap.
I have not tried any other tunes, so my comments are purely a comparison against stock.

@q20v Did you just order it online, ship your ecu to them, they flash it and send it back?
Do you have plans of going to stage 3 at some point and do you feel like k0mpresd will be good for that?
Any comments on their customer service in your experience?

I sent him a PM asking about the details (price, tune, mods etc). He simply sends a tuned ECU, no core charge, you keep your old. I won't sell my old ECU in case I want to revert to stock for whatever reason.

I have no immediate plans to upgrade past this. If I did I'd probably go standalone. But I have another car to quench that thirst :)

Oh and IMO customer service has been good, quick to respond to PM and quick to ship. I had no issues.

Ian is a great tuner, if he offers a STG3 AEB tune, you can be 100% confident that it'll run correctly.

if you're going stage 3+ I would upgrade to me7 before dropping tons of cash on the tune.

@Dan I'm assuming Ian is k0mpresd/reflect tuning? Is that right?

k0mpresd/Ian/Reflect Tuning never answered my messages. Neither did UM. 034 Motorsports on the other hand, has been enthusiastically helping me with the project. So I'm building a stage 3 tune with them.
