Show and Tell your suspension setup..

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am looking at getting a Q and thought it would be good to have a reference point for all...to allow us all compare and contrast suspension setups for the Q5/SQ5 platform. This way, novices and pros alike can share ideas, experience, etc.

If possible, please provide the following:

    -Spring/Coilover/Airlift and brand
    - Q5/SQ5 incl. model year
    -Front Drop in inches
    -Rear Drop in inches
-Wheel specs (brand, widths and offset)
    -Tire specs
    -Pictures (if possible)

I know there is already a wheel/rim "sticky" but suspension setups are not listed. Thanks!

/\ FWIW for me yours has once of the best stance's I've seen. Subtle and less forced. Really dig it.

Good idea for a thread. There is a similar one, but it's a few pages in, and long forgotten.

    '16 SQ5, stock wheels & tires, and honestly...I didn't measure. H&R 29001-3 springs and Bilstein B8 shocks.

Low enough that it looks good to my eyes, but I can still park without too much fear. Handling is a bit more crisp, particularly on initial turn-in, but it hangs on better as well. Ride quality...I remain convinced it is better than stock.

Nice! I agree with buggravy, yours was one of the cars I modeled mine after when I chose the VFF-102's. Clean and simple but stands out in a quiet way.

Yeah that's what I thought but with more options out for the SQ5.... People would need this.

I'll play. I think the reason for the lack of responses though is that there just aren't that many different suspension setups out there. I do agree with Jerry that in some ways the B8 + H&R setup rides better than stock. See this thread: Bilstein B8 (or other aftermarket shocks) + H&R - Who's running this setup?

But wheels ... so many different wheels!

I had this setup the ride is lower firmer and planted but height can be slightly lower.

The ride over bumps are bouncier and thumpier.

My next setup will be kw street comfort which will go on tomorrow. Ill report back on how that does in comparison

It was tolerable in most circumstances, but if you've got bad roads or highways with undulations, you'll definitely notice that it's bouncier and harsher. I'd personally recommend just biting the bullet and going with aftermarket shocks at the same time. It didn't take me long to go down that path. The thread I linked above has a lot of feedback.

Edit: It looks like you're in the NYC area. In that case, I definitely wouldn't go just springs.

Thanks for your input guys! Riceboy, I just finished reading that thread you linked above. Great read for sure! Seems like you guys are pretty happy with the Bilstien shocks with H&R springs. This Q5 is the fiancés car, so even though I want to mod it, I still want it to remain at a comfortable, and most importantly, safe level for her.

You definitely don't want to take shortcuts in that case. Not a good way to kick off marriage, especially if you want full car and mod privileges going forward LOL. If you decide you're interested, feel free to PM me, since I think we're local to each other and you can try it out for yourself.

Haha thanks man! She'll never revoke my mod privileges , but I don't want to make her uncomfortable or unsafe either. Going back in my 12 years of Audi ownership, Ive never installed springs before... I usually buy springs, let them sit in the box, and then buy and install coilovers anyway lol. Was just wondering how the suv guys were feeling about them, if it was any different with this platform.
Appreciate the offer! Im up in CT but still frequent down to Westchester(white plains area). Not even sure if Ill lower it. She laughs when I say it needs to be lowered, but I think its more of a nervous "oh shit he's really gonna do it" type of laugh

H&R and stock shocks here on OEM 21s....used this setup on my previous SQ5 and my current one. Daily driver...commute 35 miles everyday into NJ. No issues whatsoever....maybe I'm just so used to this setup (3yrs). The ride is fine by me and passengers never complain. But I will admit there is some bounce like others have mentioned, but only on dips. #Riceboy22....perhaps one day we can meet so I can feel the difference to see if it's worth the hassle.

True but every likes to know what Fender to ground clearance they can get out of each setup. And what wheel/tire combo will or will not fit with those suspension setups. Anyway..... who don't like to post pictures and brag about their ride

Nice! That looks great! Is that just a regular 2.0 non s-line? Where'd you find an RS grille to fit? Also where'd you source the KW Street comforts from? I was looking them up and I didn't see them listed for the 2.0.

Honestly im not sure cuz i didnt measure any b4 or after but like an inch lower than lowerring springs.

Ill measure it in a cpl days and let you know.

Also coils were used set about 10k miles used from an Sq5.
2.0t 3.0t sq5 is all universal for coils if im not mistaken.

Only when your getting lowering springs i think its weight related.

GREAT! No problems on my `14 SQ5. I live in an area where there are terrible roads (potholes, frost heaves, etc. ) and ride quality is fine with only H&R -1 springs (no shock mods) and stock 255/40-21 tires.

(from my posting on another thread)
    H&R -1 springs installed on my 2014 SQ5.
Drop was 1.5", so the gap from the tire to the fender lip went from 4.375" to 2.875".
Height from center of hub to fender lip went from 18.5" to 17".

    Impressions:
1 - Significantly reduced the body roll that was present with the stock ride height. (Simple physics says you reduce the roll center and you reduce the roll.) The car used to roll, then take a set when cornering, a little disconcerting after driving my lowered, Stage 2 `03 allroad. Now, it corners flat. No other mods needed. My business partner says it drives like his `12 S4.
2 - No adverse change in ride smoothness or comfort. Wife says it's just as comfortable as before.
3 - Like the lowered height for entry/exit.
4 - Looks like it was designed to look (now is the same ride height as Europe).
