Lovely way to start a day, S5 got smacked :/

This is from today. Older 80 year old guy blew threw a stop sign & couldn't be avoided. Claims the sun was in his eyes, frankly after speaking to him I don't think he should be driving. I'm hoping and thinking it can be fixed, it's a 2010 S5 with 88k. Vorsteiner wheels are only a little over a month old and the rear wheel now has some lovely chips and scraps.

Car was mint before this mishap :/

Ouch. I think it's definitely repairable. They need to replace the rear quarter. How's it driving though? If you have suspension issues or problems with your rear axle all bets are off.

Seems ok didn't want to chance driving it since the wheel well liner and quarter were close to the tire & towing was free. We have Allstate and the platinum coverage which is zero deductible as well as the service key coverage which they insure the car is repaired to its original state, which includes the remainder of the duration I own it. Whatever that means. They also pay for a rental car for 30 days. I figure it will be about 3 weeks to get fixed, I don't want it rushed.

Hoping th suspension is fine, it was a low speed hit, he hit me about 5 mph, front of his 2000 Malibu was barley damaged! The guy who towed it said it looks like it can be fixed, I guess they also run a body shop.

I hope so to, thankfully we get the rental car free and a choice of a reputable shop to fix it right.

That's why I have an onboard camera recording everything in front of my car, while driving.
As soon as I do the DIY trunk power outlet installation, I plan on installing a similar dash cam on my rear window (a friend of mine got rear ended last year and the guy took off).

I'm hoping, the door is fine he hit right after the door and somehow missed it. I assume they will have to weld in a new quarter. Hate the idea of that but it is what is is I guess.

With the platinum coverage we have Allstate said they just go ahead and fix it and go after his is insurance company for whatever it costs. I'll make sure they cover the rear passenger wheel as thy have a few blemishes now and we're flawless prior as they were only a month or so old.

NADA on my car is about $24,500 I think. So hopefully it's not $18k with of damage or around there. Looks bad, but the quarter on these cars are fairly thin. It was a 5-8mph hit. No airbags went off either. I'm still silently crying inside!

Yep that sucks a lot. This is my second reck in 40 days. I hit a manhole cover in June which lead to a subframe and steering rack replacement. I didn't even have her back for a full week.....It's still driving fine this time, but I'm resting it as much as possible. My go to shop can't work me in until September. Killing me.

State Farm told me the same thing. Settle with them and let them go after the other guy. I was surprised to hear that.

That was a relief as well, letting them battle it out for me and just get the ball rolling. The shop they recommended i looked up on yelp has a 4.9 out of 5 with 350 reviews. They give daily/every few day updates via text which i think is awesome. And it seems they get it done faster than their original window they give you.

    Never a dull moment.

Glad that you are okay. Just let your insurance company handle it. It definitely looks repairable to me. They will replace everything that has any damage, including your wheel. I recall someone hitting our old SUV in the front and they not only repaired the car but replaced the clear bra and the damaged Vinyl bra on the hood. So wheel repair should be a no brainer.

    We are fine, thankfully.

I think so as well, insurance company has been awesome with us this far. Going to get a rental tomorrow. My fiancé let the agent know about the wheels & she said the adjuster will know right away to include that. At least the rental will be great on gas compared to the V8 S5, if there's something to pull positive from this haha.

Yep. Easily repairable.Had the same quarter panel destroyed by a Tahoe last year. Replaced it all and got the whole side painted to blend. Just make sure your wiring harness behind that isn't jacked up.

Giving great consideration to doing the same thing, as I had an incredibly close call on the interstate today. Fortunately nothing happened but having a camera on board to verify or capture essential evidence goes along way to proving your side of the story. If you don't mind my asking, what type of camera did you install in the car? Mounting? Pictures of the set up. Vaniimal, glad you are OK, and couldn't help but notice the license plate on the car of the other driver was from Slatington Pennsylvania area. Used to spend a lot of time up in the Wind Gap area. Are you local to that area?

@ICU2 Yes we are in the Lehigh valley.

@Brianashley Crazy it created that much damage from essentially a 5mph roll into us from his "plastic" front bumper. I would surely want the whole side painted. What was your turn around time, I would assume 3 weeks easily.

All this trouble being proud of zero door dings on either side. All the far out parking, making sure nobody dings it. All for a old 80 year old guy who shouldn't even be driving to roll into it.

We will also ask for diminished value, but we have no problem keeping it if they can get it fixed to factory specs like Allstate promises with my platinum coverage. I guess I would re think that if I was hit at like 45mph+. I should also get a set of free ecodes for the trouble lol.

@Vanimal. About a two week job on mine after all the parts were sourced. Even got their wheel guy to completely refinish my stock wheels while they had the car. Pleased with the results; can't see any seams and the paint is great. No interior rattles either.

Sorry man! Just to chime in, this will be a rather involved job if the rear quarter panel will be replaced (which looking at the damage will be necessary). As you may have probably noticed already, the rear quarter panel of this car starts underneath the front quarter panel, all the way to the back, wraps around the rear side window and forward all the way to the a-pillar. There will be cutting/welding involved. That said, some shops are able to perform absolute miracles. I've seen a car that was going to be declared a total loss fixed to perfection because the owner (my friend) refused to let go of the car given its rare status. This can only be achieved, however, if the frame is intact; otherwise you may experience secondary issues that would plague the car for the rest of its lifespan. Make sure that the damage didn't go past what we can see on the pictures and you should be able to get it back to mint status. Best of luck!

How do insurance laws work there? It sounds to me like your insurance is fronting the bill and pursuing this guy's insurance later? Out here you just put a lien against their insurance for everything and anything relating to the accident. Medical, tow, rental, vehicle repair, displacement costs (meals while at a hospital, etc.), etc. All of that is by default put as a lien on their insurance and it's their problem to worry about if medical bills aren't paid out. If their insurance doesn't settle with you by the time those bills are do the bad credit doesn't effect you due to the lien. The 'sun in the eyes' excuse doesn't work here either. Cops still fault them with an accident even if they claim the sun is in their eyes.

Glad you're okay. The damage on your car is far less substantial than my Evo, and my Evo is worth about 4k less than your Audi currently. 13 year old car and it still wasn't totaled! It'll be fine as long as there's no frame damage.

@Haze, yes essentially. They front and battle with the other party. Which really shouldn't be to much of a battle. At least for the highest coverage we have that they offer.

Hoping there isn't any damage past what's seen. It was a rather slow speed smack.

They already have the rental car ready for my fiancé as well as getting the estimate done sometime today. They move rather fast!

They also mentioned the work will be guaranteed for the life of the car while I own it body/paint. And will be sent to the preferred shop on their list.

There was definitely some battling between insurance when we got rear ended years and years ago. The other drive had the same insurance company as us, but a different agent. Their agent was doing everything in her power to try to low ball us, but luckily our agent didn't give a damn how bad it made her numbers looked, and he just wanted to make sure we were taken care of.

Man, Vanimal - This brings me back to last summer when I had a similar incident happen to me: 80 year old fart (who was a nice man but a hazard on the streets) straight-lined a bend right into my front quarter snapping my front driver suspension. He hit it so hard, his car mounted the sidewalk and yanked his wheel off in the process; his axle broke right in half.
Since my car was parked, his insurance claimed responsibility and $15K, a month and change, and Nth number of calls to the insurance guy, my car was fixed. Good as new.

It's always a shitty process to haggle with insurance companies, and it may not always seem like they have "your" best interest at heart, but I figured out a couple of "thank yous", some "have a nice day" and a chipper attitude will go a loooong way. Still, it's no fun driving an underwhelming rental, but it guess it makes you appreciate what you got. I hope your car gets properly fixed and whatever you do, DEMAND OEM. And moar low and ecodes.

    best of luck!

^ One nice thing with rentals is that you can keep miles off of your cars.

Way back when that lady rear-ended my wife her insurance attempted to get us to sign a limited mileage agreement, effectively giving us no more than 5 miles per day on the rental. Naturally we refused to sign the agreement and instead put every bit of miles on the rental car that we could in the nearly 3 months we had it. In the just shy of 3 months we had the car we put about 15k miles on the car, which is extremely excessive for us. We figured, hey, we might as well go to Denver every weekend. Why not? We could park a car we gave zero shits about downtown and just hang out up there.

Looks like a quarter panel replacement for sure along with the liner and such, Make sure they do proper blends into the door and roof rail sections along with a full 4 wheel alignment due to the location of the impact. I doubt you would have any problem with original parts but make sure they don't try to put a used quarter on. Best of luck and feel free to ask any questions if you want. Seems like a lot of good info already in this thread. Glad you were not hurt!

Just left and the guy handling it was awesome. Super clean facility, he thinks it's fixable for sure but will need a quarter. I asked him out of curiosity what he thinks of the top of his head just for shits and giggles and he said $7-8k. Personally I think more.

Also gave him Supreme Powersports number for the Vorsteiner wheel. It's got some nicks and a few gouges. But i surely want a new one since they are about a month old.

Another cool thing is daily updates via text along with pictures they do. I already miss it and of course he said it's a beautiful car :(

Hopefully they fix her up good. I'm a positive on looker.

Not sure yet, I'll know better tomorrow once the estimate is done. I'm thinking about 3 weeks. Rental car is free for 30 days unlimited miles though.

Charge the rental to the other driver's insurance since it was his fault. Whether or not he has rental insurance, I'm guessing your policy does so his insurance would have to honor that.

This isn't always possible, depending on the insurance coverage - though Van did specify he has pretty thorough coverage - at the end of the day, Van's insurance will recoup everything they expended during this situation and Van shouldn't technically pay a dime. Even his deductible should be refunded if he wasn't at all found at fault. I hope this is the case.

The deductible will be taken care of by the at fault party.

Estimate at the moment "not counting the wheel" is about $4,800/$5000. Which is A LOT lower than I expected, but will probably go a bit higher id imagine once said and done. For instance the wheel isn't included in the estimate yet.

As for the wheel, he said if it's not bent they can "possibly" refinish it. It's only got a few nicks and chips. But I did ask how they would get it to match perfectly to the Mercury silver color. He said don't worry if they can't they will just order a new one. Thoughts on that?

Lovely way to start a day, S5 got smacked :/

    In short because slammed today...

Very sorry to see this Vincent. I had a similar, but much worse incident. New quarter, trunk lid, rear and quarter glass, rear bumper, rear lights and so on. Was $9K. I'll post a pic

For the wheel, try for another for sure. And the current can be garage art :) Vorsteiner is running low, and no more wheels for two months. And if they call, ask for Tam, and mention me please.

If your wheel is machined meaning you can see the grooves of metal almost cut into the surface of the wheel) then it is not repairable. The factory S5 black optics package are machined on the outer lip and the insides are painted. That lip is not repairable, my used car I bought had someone attempt to repair and it looks pretty poor. If it is painted then they may be able to actually repair it but I would have the shop call you after the wheel rpr specialist is done so you can inspect it prior to completion. That way they can order you a wheel if need be before the vehicle is done.
