Yesterday, Pezgoon kindly replaced my cam follower.
As some suspected it was shot and the camshaft is showing signs of scoring. Indeed when the position sensor was also replaced, it showed signs of metal filings.
Now in my mind this poses a few questions. If metal filings are flying around, does it make any sense to replace camshaft and fuel pump while the risk of total engine failure remains a possibility.
I've missed the extended warranty by months so that's a non starter.
If in fact we're looking at the engine as a whole, then because it's a second car, doing about 7 miles a day, I'd consider doing no more than letting it go on as long as it lasted and then buying a used warrantied engine when the original fails.
It's due an oil change so I could flush it at the same time but anyones thoughts or experiences would be greatly received.
This all came about because the car bogs down if the acceleration is quicker but drives fine if gently driven, I guess vag com needs to explain that one.
