Microphone by Front Dome Lights

I was poking around with the dome light enclosure and I saw the microphone mounted inside of the housing. I searched the part number (8l1 862 373) and found out it's a microphone but I could not find a purpose for it in my 2000 A4 Avant 1.8t. I'm wondering what it is there for.

In the trunk there is a db25 connector for a cellphone option. The handset rj45 connector is in the center armrest
