    Alright.

    Story-

My name is Zane, I've been a long time researcher of Audizine and this is my first post!

About a week ago i nearly hydro-locked my A4's 2.0t after driving directly into a 2'.5" deep pool of water.

The metal plate centered between the transmissions bell-housing, and the back of the block bent into the flywheels teeth.

Creating a rapid metal to metal clicking sound.

Audi removed a section of the metal debris plate while meticulously preventing metal shavings

Water was found in the air box as well as the inter-cooler. Both were cleaned by Audi.

    Issue-

-Whirling noise emanating from underneath car
-Gear/power-steering oil smell inside cabin of vehicle.
    -RPM chugging at 1800-2200 4000-4500

One of my friends suggested the synchro or differential by the smell of the oil/symptoms.

    Thank You

Well at that depth the steering rack would've been submerged just as an fyi, I'm not saying its that just a suggestion, also, Audis are not good floatation devices lol

Ps, they changed the oil in the engine, transmission, power steering and the differentials right? Thats kinda standard water intrusion procedure, otherwise the fluids might have water in them and burn up the bearings, anytime you do a water crossing while off roading in a picking, you have to change all fluids immediately after

I am going to assume you typo'd and meant A4 instead of S4 because they keys are right next to each other.

Clean out your spark plug areas and coils for moisture. I doubt it got that high but its easy to check.

Your power steering rack could be hit by the water if the water was literally 2 feet 5 inches tall but doubtfully in it.

I would assume you have water in your engine somewhere though and wouldn't think they water would get into the power steering unless something is busted open.

The whirling noise is probably you're rotors flashed rusted by the water. Unless its coming from the engine itself.

    Water will make you serge/misfire.

Clean out any water you can, fluids and such as well as your intake.

Whirling from steering pump?? As a recent issue of mine, when it's low it makes some strange noises. Just as a note sure you've check its level.

It definitely appears to be more of a misfire then a surge. As far as the whirling noise goes the steering fluid level is at max, and doesn't possess any contaminants (still going to change it).
Where would water remain within the engine?
The rotors were slightly rusted from a lack of movement, but the sound presented itself at peak points in the RPM range. (possibly a result of the cleaned intercooler?)

I'm thinking i need to clean the injectors or something...

A video would be a better place because we can't hear what you can hear. I would check for moisture in your plugs. Even though the odds of water getting up that far are not good its worth a quick check.
