Audi Passenger Frontal Airbag Recall

Keep in look out in the mail, I got a recall notice in the mail for the passenger frontal airbag recall. The letter states "Audi does not have replacement parts available at the present time. Audi recommends avoiding use of the front passenger seat whenever possible. Wondering if Audi will be paying for rental cars?

I got my notice yesterday. Looks like the replacement procedure isn't too difficult, remove the glovebox and some dash trim then it is four bolts.

I just went to http://web.audiusa.com/recall/# and entered my VIN#. It does show a recall since May 27th 2016 oddly enough. I have not received anything in mail as of yet.

Takata has reported that the passenger frontal airbag inflator could potentially rupture (due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute high humidity and temperature cycling) if the vehicle is involved in a crash where the frontal airbags are designed to deploy. In the event of an inflator rupture, in very rare cases metal fragments could pass through the airbag cushion material, which may result in serious injury or death to vehicle occupants. Audi recommends avoiding use of the front passenger seat whenever possible until the recall repair has been performed.

Got mine last week.... "repair solution pending" always leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling when theres a risk of a frag grenade going off in your dash.

I inputed mine too and no recalls popped up.
One good thing though,
Having no passenger riding along means no one to tell me to slow down or here comes a car or stop I have to go to the bathroom.

Hahahaha...Mine is also not popping up on the website, but I may just have to use it as an excuse to prevent any passengers in the car!

I also have A version Audi Corp car. do you know if all A cars are exempt from this recall? My cars VIN doesnt specify a country either so im not sure how thatd work

No idea, but since mine is excluded, I'm wondering if there is a switchover point where they went to the recalled airbag.

They could have also just gone back and forth over time to different suppliers depending on supply/demand

Got mine I think Monday. Got one for the Honda in March. Still waiting for the second letter from Honda to let me know when the parts are available. Gonna assume it'll be a while for the RS till the actual work is performed.

As was mentioned, these were some of the very first ones out with low VINs which had minor differences.

Visible ones are a larger sharkfin, no chrome trim on the buttons above the Navi, and an extra port on the back of the intake manifold that could be used to suck up Seafoam, etc, etc.

Let us know their response please. Several members over on M3post have been granted loaners and have had them for quite some time. I'm curious to know if Audi will do this since it only mentions the passenger airbag.

I actually did the same thing a few days ago since my RS4 is my daily driver. I'll let you know if I hear anything. Its a huge bummer if they think someone with a family cant use the passenger seat in their car with no fix in sight.

+1. But I didn't learn until I took mine for service. I was told it could be months before parts are available as the company is replacing recall with Toyota, Chevy etc, which have overall more vehicles effected. Anyone hear the same?

I'm considering disabling the passenger airbag for now since I'd prefer my gf to maybe smack her head on the dash instead of maybe getting a face full of hot shrapnel.

What would be the easiest way to disable it?

Just got a call from Audi of America and was told that a loaner car was unavailable. He told me Audi and Volkswagen have not had any faulty airbag incidents but I guess other car companies that used Takata airbags have. He said a fix would be very soon but who knows. Just wanted to update everyone.

Seems like it. I guess we should get another letter soon letting us know when we can take it into an audi repair shop. He was pretty vague on the phone but thats what he told me

Seems as though there is no website for a VIN search for Canadian cars.
