    Power Steering Fluid Swap Issue

I've searched quite a bit on this issue and was unable to find anything, so hopefully this is okay to post.

I went in for a routine oil change this past Tuesday. While I was at the shop, one of the floor mechanics suggested that I also add coolant and flush the power steering. I said that he was certainly correct that I need those things, but that they both require specialty fluids and to not perform those services. At the check-out counter, I was charged for the power steering swap and told it had been performed anyway. I refused to pay for the charge. However, I now have the incorrect fluid in my car and I am worried about the damage it may cause.

I contacted my local repair shop and they recommended that I get the fluid swapped and vehicle checked for damages, and to ask the oil change place to foot the bill. After 3 days of trying, today I finally was able to contact the manager of the oil place. He said he would swap the fluid, but would not cover any other work done by an independent shop. Needless to say, I am not worried about the $100 fluid swap, I'm worried about the damage that is possibly associated with it. Where should I go from here?

Thank you all in advance. I really do appreciate the help.

Some of the materials used in the audi power steering system (hoses, seals, etc) require that special fluid to last longer. That fluid is not going to ruin your system right now but you may start to see small leaks here and there if you dont change it

I think the PO of my car used GM PS fluid based on its smell... I flushed it with the correct stuff and havent had any issues. Sooner the better but i dont think one week kill it

Back in the day I mistakenly put the wrong ps fluid in my a4 and it destroyed all the rubber seals and lines. Ended up having to replace the entire ps system, including the steering rack. I'd def get that fluid out ASAP.
