So driving down the northern state late last night something smashes into the side of my car. It was extremely loud, I pull over quick start running back where I got hit. I see feather flying. And an animal in the middle of the road. It was a grey horned owl flew into my side mirror. I moved it off the road. Checked the damage. My mirror is destroyed hanging off my car and scuff marks. Ugh what are the chances of that happening. It Scared the crap out of me. Look at the craws, there huge.
Let's see what the body shop says. Looks light I just need a whole new assembly. Small scratch on the silver trim.

Wow! I feel sorry for both, the owl and your side mirror. Beautiful animal.

Sorry to hear that, poor owl (and mirror). You're lucky it wasn't your hood or windshield, and it's lucky, I guess, that it was quick. It's terrible when one hits an animal, but far worse when they're just badly injured.

Yeah glad he died, if he was barely alive . I would have but him down. Which would have been worse. There's no way he would have survived the impact.

Ouch! I'm selling oem folding mirrors if you need them! Both in perfect condition. Grey are from my car from factory and silver were bought thinking they were electric folding. Both are manual fold with heated mirrors.

I've hit an owl, but it was a glancing blow to my windshield. The owl survived and no cracks to my windshield. I was shocked when it happened also, it's like a horror film where things jump out at you from nowhere! Their wingspan is very wide! It covered the entire windshield for a split second, but enough to scare the crap out of me also!

Is the assembly wired for side assist? That was salvageable, the mirror cover I'm not sure, haven't had a chance to really look at it. That cover is pretty expensive, so buying it without isn't cost effective

This may work for you. I went through my insurance company when I hit a fox last year which destroyed my bumper and grill. Hitting an animal is deemed a comprehensive claim, so depending on what your deductible is this may be an option for you.

What he said! Why bother messing with it when comprehensive will cover it for only a deductible?

I have $1000 deductible on collision, ugh I didn't even think of going thru comprehensive insurance for this. I'll call tomorrow, if I can I'll see if I can cancel my order.

Does comprehensive claim come up in car fax? If so I'll just pay cash

It should not come up on carfax as my dealer did not see anything when they ran a carfax on my old car which was the one I did the claim for the fox. Your deductible for comprehensive is different than your collision one, usually it's cheaper.

Autobody shop told me it does, I called Geico to ask and they want to put a claim on my car just for mentioning it happened. I was pissed and hung up. That's bs, I'm not even going thru them. They said I'm obligated to tell them and it's to protect me. Yeah ok? Now I have to worry if my insurance is going up and they didn't pay out a dime.
