    Replacing plugs every 800 miles

Hey guys. Need some help. It seems after 800 or so miles after replacing my plugs, my car starts missing again. Rough idle, cutting out coasting to a stop, lack of power. I replace the plugs with the NGK bkr7e coppers. APR tune set on 93 octane. 3" exhaust, cold air, water/meth and the 2.0T coil pack conversion kit. This didn't start happening until about 5000 or so miles after I installed the conversion. Then....every 800-1000 miles. No vag com. And the AutoZone techs are clueless when hooking up the car....at least around here in Connecticut.

    Thanks for the help

I would check fuel trims via vag com or a diagnostic scanner with that capability. I would venture to say you may have a failed or failing sensor causing an improper fuel mixture

gap your plugs down .020-.025....I can never get them perfect but as long as the gap isn't larger than .025(with the autozone special silver coin gapper)....its the very smallest/beginning of that gap tool....problems should go away after that...

Lol. Based on what diagnosis? I've run .030 with no issues. Not saying it's right gap but simply stating it should not alone kill plugs.

Gap is def a possibility, but my guess is more plug fouling. But we can only guess with what limited information we've been given.

There is no need for that small a gap with the stock coils, let alone with the FSI conversion.

Well, I think the gap you run is somewhat dependent on the health of your ignition system for one. It varies for each car, especially on stock coils and ICMs. But since the OP has 2.0 coils, it could be fouling or maybe even an intermittent short in the coil adapter harnesses. Even if the gap is off, it shouldn't cause that dramatic of symptoms just because the gap might have slightly increased over the 800 miles or whatever.

OEM spec is between .016 - .024. Everyone just assumes that .028 is correct as plugs default to that gap.

Whaat? Some plugs I've measured over .035 out of the box. There's no way in hell OEM tolerances are that small.

I have an a6 with the 2.7t and I had done the TSI swap and ALWAYS had to replace the plugs every 1000 to 1500 miles no matter the gap (I did notice an improvement at .24 to .26 over .30). Fast forward a few months to swapping the engine for a 2.7 out of an 00 model. I never changed the plugs swapping the engine out, put the tune I had on the other ECU on the new one minus the dwell changes for the coil upgrade and got the car running... 15 k later the same plugs that were in the engine when I put it in are still running strong with 0 misfire issues! I don't know what caused the problem but I did wire my own connectors instead of using a prewired kit. OP did you use a conversion kit or do it yourself?
