To mudflap or not is the question

Noticed some rust on the wheel well of my 2013 S4 (34k miles). It's 3 small dots the size of this "o"

Really pisses me off, I live in Ohio and drive the car year round. I have the touch up paint and will be fixing it soon. I can't find too much info on mudflap or splash guards sides they are about $160 for all 4 oem.

Has anyone done this? Do u regret it?

When i first read this I was going to be like If you want mud flaps go buy a WRX. But if its doing damage to the car. Maybe some sort of mud flap or guard is in order. Maybe you can fix it and put a heavy duty piece of clear vinyl or something on it. i know some cars come factory with a little section of clear tape or whatever it is in certain places that the factory knows where rock chips will be bad to prevent them. That might be a better option looking wise to mud flaps

I know different car but my wife has mud flaps on her 2015 civic but they r hard plastic and they don't extend out that much, but just enough.

I'll loom into it more when I get a sec. Trying to work some OT to finish up saving for a stage II tune

Southgate Audi put front ones on my 2011 and 2014 S4, my 2010 came from royal oak in Calgary originally and it had them on all 4 corners when I bought it, the back ones look horrible and I think they have to drill a hole...fronts are honestly hardly noticeable and really help with the paint peeling issues...

    Lol! Good old search function.

The one with the same title as yours mentions use of the 3M clear coat material. I guess it's like the clear bra. Def the more attractive approach.

To chime in here, my family owns a sign and vinyl wrap shop and we've done a couple clear bras / clear vinyl on cars that have the same effect as a mudflap. Definitely the more attractive option however with the thickness of the vinyl you will notice the transition line from paint to vinyl when you're up close. But it is relatively inexpensive and a lot cleaner looking

Not great looking but, for a mudflap, not horrible either.

This is the only spot out of all 4 wheel wells that's has rust or paint chips. I will be patching it today.

Skywalker - ru willing to sell me some clear vynyl? Please PM me how much it would cost for some clear vynyl to protect all 4 wheels. I'd like 2 try that route b4 I go with mud flaps.

I did it before last winter. Hated the back ones, and they scraped when leaving the driveway. I took the back ones off, left the front on because to me they're barely noticeable, and it stops the rock chipping that some describe.

I have the front oem flaps on my car, it was like that the first day I saw it on the lot (same dealer as shown above). Id rather have the flaps than chipping the paint in the winter, as we get a lot of gravel on the roads from November to March.

I have seen a lot of the B8s rust on the front wheel wells, definitely get them. I had mine repainted because they were chipped and peeling so bad and rusting. I sold the car before I had the mudflaps put on but I highly recommend it, especially anywhere they salt the roads.

Vinyl/3M peels off, doesn't help protect against salt, and mudflaps are fugly.

Buy some truck bed spray liner from an auto parts and do a few thick coats on the inside of the fender. I did mine last year after getting my fenders REPLACED due to peeling paint. Looks like yours are showing early signs of that issue.

I m a big believer in the use of mudflaps to protect the area behind the wheels from stone chips. Always did MFs as my first mod. IMHO, the factory MFs looked tacked on and I wonder about the ability to protect the paint. That being said, my 2 B8 S4s that I put significant mileage on both have significant stone chipping behind the wheels. My recommendation would be to put Cclear Bra or similar material in these stone chipping prone areas. It will look better and protect better as well.

Very easy install on OEM mudflaps. I like the way the look. Plus the added benefit of course.

I have a b8.5 s4 in sepang. Only the OEM s-line flaps will fit on the front of the s4. There are no flaps for the rear. Having said that, my fronts are barely noticeable and super easy to diy
