    '14 RS 7 - Steering & Tire questions

3 weeks ago I took delivery of a Daytona Gray Pearl RS 7 w/19k miles on the odo, carbon package, B&O, comfort seats. I came out of a '14 RS 5 and i'm loving the RS 7, although i'm wondering about the items in the Title and hoping to gain some insight from forum members.

Specifically, at lower speeds(say between 5-35 mph), when I floor it the steering wheel moves a couple inches side to side as does the car, the whole vehicle feels loose requiring a steering correction to keep the car straight. Car has the air suspension and from what I can recall is less composed when you go to the floor than a '13 CLS63(rwd) I had prior to the RS 5. This has surprised me somewhat and is a little unsettling. Perhaps I'm just getting used to 516 lbft v. 317 lbft. the RS 5 had. Does this sound like something others experience in their air suspension equipped RS 7s? I've looked around for TSBs regarding steering updates but haven't come across anything.

The other issue regards brand new 21" Pirelli P Zeros the dealer put on. When I cross over any imperfections in the road, even something as subtle as painted lines, the tires appear to tramline and the steering wheel also does the side-to-side jigger, again feeling loose.

Perhaps these are quirks with the car and tires however i'm hoping to resolve them and would appreciate any input in that regard.

Congratulations on your awesome new car. Regarding item #1, I've never had that experience. But, to be fair, I grip the steering wheel like I'm wrestling a python every time I floor it so there's not much of an opportunity for me to experience the feel of a sloppy steering wheel. Regarding #2, it sounds like you have your lane assist feature turned on. Just press the button at the end of the turn signal stalk to turn that off.

Lane Assist may be the culprit here, i'll have to check that tomorrow morning on the drive into work. Regarding the alignment, before I picked up the car I requested that be done and was told by the service advisor it was within spec. on all corners and that the technician had road force balanced the tires. If the condition still exists I'll have the alignment checked - thanks for the tip.

Do you mean torque steer or loose steering. Torque steer is real on this beast. Floor it when the front wheel isn't totally straight and you can feel the pull

I hear ya re: torque steer. However the steering just feels a little too light and loose to me in Auto mode when you get on the power. The RS 5 was a gem with its 8,400 rpm red line and DCT and much less dramatic so, it could very well be me getting used to the RS 7's grunt!
