    KeyFob transponder chip Help?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,
I recently set about to replace the spare keyfob for our 2006 A4. The plastic housing was cracked and the two halves wouldn't stay together. I did realize how much of a pain in the rear it was going to be to swap the internals over. The chip part is held in with two brass posts that were difficult to remove but I got them out and moved the chip, then on to the stupid transponder chip. I broke it! it just wouldn't come out and then CRACK! So it's dead. I need to get a new one. I found the website www.fixmyVW.com that "rents" the Vag-tacho cable needed to get the pin number and reprogram a new chip. They also sell chips but I don't know if the ones they have are compatible with the B6 A4. Could someone verify what chip I need and if fixmyvw has the correct one.

I believe the above RFID chip is the correct one but the fitment guide doesn't say anything about Audi's. Audi is part of the VW group so I'm assuming they are compatible. Is this true? Any help appreciated.

Just because it cracked, too, when I got a B7 fob and 6 months later it still works just fine. Just saying. Try it. Maybe it's still fine. :)

Tried it and it is dead as can be, flashing light on the dash and turns off right away. I just ordered the chip and cable to rent from fixmyvw.com so it should be here soon. Hopefully it gets here soon and I can get it working. I'm vacation in a little over a week so I hope I can get it sent back in time so I don't get charged more for the cable rental.

I could help you remotely if you have a laptop and Ross Tech Hex-Can cable....I just run the program over team viewer and takes 10 minutes.

Hang on-- -did you send me a IM a week or so back? I replied... but I forgot to re-try my reply since I was at work and most of our computers block half the stuff I'd like them to pay me to do on the interwebs.
Apologies if you never got it, but I didn't hear back.

I thought without a working immobilizer you couldn't pull the PIN? Even if you have the fob w/ a working immobilizer you need a locksmith or Audi to pull it. Vag-Com, from my understanding, only does remote matching. Please correct me if im' wrong

If the files on the ECU are examined in a hex editor, the SKC can be determined easily.

Your car is Immo IV not III. I don't know of any clone tools that will retrieve your SKC . Not to say that they aren't out there, you are taking a big chance of bricking your cluster messing around with them. Arbrites AVDI can program Immo IV but it is too pricey for the average user. I believe that the later versions of VAG Commander can as well, however that will set you back over $1000 Euros. And no, the commonly available on the internet 3.6 version won't work sorry. It is on version 27.4 or something like that now.

Not sure if the Immo chip you broke is the same Megamos ID48 that is in the earlier fobs. Seems likely though. I would recommend talking to a locksmith or the dealer to sort your issue out instead of DIY in this case...

The B6 is Immo III, not IV. Immo IV didn't come around until the B7.

I thought the last year of the B6 was 2005. I was wrong. Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe it just where I live, as I've never seen a 2006 B6. They 'all' B7s here.

OP, buy a Megamos ID48 chip off Ebay (I bought 10 for $30 shipped). Inset that sucker in your fob. Read your eeprom with your choice of program (VAG Commander, ME7eeprom, etc.). Note the numbers at 32 and 33 of your eeprom file when read with a hex editor. Convert the hex to decimal and swap bytes (ie. 33 then 32). Add a zero in front and that is your five digit SKC that you need to login to adapt with VCDS. Follow the instructions on Ross-Tech's site for key pairing. Done.

Sorry but I though the OP was doing something daunting involving Immo4. I couldn't figure out why this thread was so long otherwise... Immo3 instructions are all over the internet. All you need is the ubiquitous 'blue' KKL USB cable ($8 Ebay buy) or VCDS cable in dumb mode and VCDS software (registered/paid) to adapt the key(s).

BTW I would recommend staying away from VAG Tacho clone tools for your application. The B6 clusters are encrypted and you run a risk of bricking the unit. Just read your ECU if possible as there is no such risk. That said, my B6 ECU didn't want to be read in the car. I had to bench it to get the e2p. My VW Mk4 was no issue however. Luck of the draw I guess...
