Time to play Name That Noise!! Video inside....

Got brakes installed yesterday, rotors/pads, and had calipers painted. Also got new tires. When I got the car back last night I noticed a noise from the left rear when i was on any bumpy road. Took the car back today, got it onto the left, could not recreate the noise when in the air. Greased up some parts, put it back down. Same noise when I push down on the trunk and go over bumps. There was NO noise at all before I had the brakes/tires replaced yesterday. Here it is, thoughts??

Oh jeez, I had to watch that twice. I thought the noise was you jacking the car up, and then the video ended. That's awful!

Has to be something suspension related. Maybe bad shock? Spring rubbing against an isolator? Something?

I have H&R OE Sport springs on there too. Also, over the past few weeks when I turn hard left, sounds like something under the car is going to fall off. I thought it was exhaust banging, but that was not it. Audi service friend thinks the sport diff may be having issues and need to be replaced. Would the bad bushing also cause a noise like that in a hard left turn? That noise has been there a while, but this new noise just started yesterday after I got the work done on the car. None of the suspension items should have been touched with just brakes and tires.

You need a lift that lifts the car up from the wheels and get under and replicate the noise. Very strange.

Had the car back up on a lift today, wiggled the tired around in the air and no noise. Got it back on the ground, noise was back. Need to take it into Audi one of these days to get all the things looked at, from the left turn underside noise, engine vibration at 2200, and now this. Time to get the tune removed.

It's an illusion. It's the wheel/brake moving ever so slightly.

I recently had my trans replaced because of a diff problem. It made some clicking noise on sharp turns but this is much louder and less like the sound. I couldn't make the sound while the car was stationary.

This is a totally separate noise from the one I get that I THINK is from the diff. This noise is stationary when I push down, or when I go over rough road. The diff noise I think is on hard left turns, sounds like something on the passenger side rear under the car is about to fall off....

Going back again today to get it checked out. Needs to take off the rear brake assembly and do it again. Sounds horrible now when I drive and I am not comfortable driving it that way at all. My wife said something last night driving to dinner too that it really sounds bad, glad we only had to drive a mile too. This was a new shop too, and he is a friend of mine, so i really hope this can get fixed.

Is it not under warranty still?

Aftermarket brakes were installed by the local shop, so I don't think Audi would cover anything if the issue is related to that. Trying to get it fixed first before having to go to Audi...plus I have to get the tune removed before I take it there which can take several days to schedule. Really want to take care of it without having to go into Audi.

Can't imagine it's brake related. The tune I can understand though.

Quick update. Besides the noise in the video, I said i was having a real nasty rattle from the rear passenger side when I went over any bumps. Took the car back in today, he took off the rear brake again, replaced it, made sure all was snug and seated properly, no change. Same noise. When I go over bumps with my foot even lightly on the brake, no noise. Brakes were totally snug though. He thinks maybe the electronic parking brake may be a bit loose in some way and vibrating off the calipers making the vibration noise, so when I am on the brake at all, calipers are tight, no noise. This sounds like a possibility??

That noise in the video sounds bushing/rubber binding to me...and if you can't replicate the noise with it in the air that tells me something in the suspension when under load is binding up a bit

Very true. There are 2 separate noises though, the one in the video which I THOUGHT was related to the road bump noise, but now I think they are totally separate. They video noise may have been there a while and I never noticed it until i pushed down after I heard the road bump noise. I am going to put my action cam outside the car this weekend and try to put up a video of that noise if they cannot fix it this weekend with the parking brake adjustment.

Just did my brakes also and right away noticed loud noises going over small bumps, like the reflectors in the road. Turns out there was some play on calipers cause of the new rotors and pads, so the shop shimmed them and noise is all gone. I thought it was the bushings or swaybar but nope, glad I brought it back to the shop to have them take a second look.

BINGO!! THe road noise I heard over any bump was actually from the FRONT brake. There was small play in the pad. The shop shimmed the pad/rotor and noise is gone. Sounded like the rear, but was actually the front.

BUT the noise in the video was totally unrelated and probably has been there longer than I knew. Could be suspension related with the H&R OE SPort springs with the stock shocks still. Not sure, but was not related to the brake/tire job I had done this week like I thought.

With aftermarket springs and hearing that am going to guess it's a spring seat. I'd jack it up on that side and douse it with something like spray silicone to see if it goes away.
When they first put it on a lift to do brakes it extended springs and shocks fully simply making noise worse. Spring transmits sound and I don't think it's a bushing. Some times the Top seat to body can make that noise also.
Who did springs? Make sure the top mount is tight. That noise can be felt, in other words get under car while some does that and see where you feel it.
I'm in NJ if no one can figure it out.

Springs were done by a local mechanic, so I am not qualified really to start messing with the shocks, besides some lubricant. I am going to jack it up and spray some silicon on the spring seat and see if that helps. I will keep you posted how it works out. Thank you.
