    Thinking of PSS10 for avant

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Looking for the next upgrade! So far Stg 2, Full eurocode sway / Alu setup, and 18" Neuspeed wheels on OEM sport suspension.

Would like less body roll and am happy with the sharp turn in with eurocode parts. I track 1-2 x / year so adjustability is preferred.

Looking to get PSS10 coilover setup and not go budget and make a mistake. I've been researching and looks like they go for around 2.2K and my local shop quotes a 4-wheel alignment and install for $600. Does anyone have recs for the "best price" for this setup, or recommend others that would be comparable? I have searched the forum but most posts are on STs or solowerks which I don't think I would be happy with.

Hopefully this mod will keep me happy for many years :)

    Thank you!

I have ran 3 sets of PSS10s and believe, they are the best coils for the money. Sure, you could go much more expensive, but the ROI becomes a losing cause. Since PPS10s are progressively rated coilovers, they'll ride very comfortable on the street, and will stiffen up when on the track. I ran my PSS10s @3 rear, 2 front, this all out of setting 10.

Thanks zspec. Interesting idea running two settings never thought about that. Do the prices seem reasonable? Any preferred vendors

Yep, most guys running PSS10s seldom have the settings the same front/back.
Price wise, what you stated is retail and difficult for many vendors to go much lower. Bilstein raised their pricing last year and it's been holding steady. Because of this, I run H&Rs on my AR until I can afford PSS10s again. Put a feeler out there to see if anyone is looking to unload their PSS10s.

Running PSS10s on my Allroad... couldn't be happier. Wanted comfort and quality, and these have done just that. Expect to be right at 2k shipped.

Install + alignment cost at $600 seem reasonable? I can DIY simple things but too much for me.

That is actually a fair price. My estimate, $400 for install (the B8.5 chassis isn't easy, ***but not difficult either*** as you do have to drop the rear sub-frame to install the rear springs) With two installers and air tools, they should be able to complete it within 5hrs, 6 tops! Alignment wise, some places will charge you $75 for AW, some more because you're lowered. That's their excuse to make more money. $200 total would be fair for a lilfetime work.

If I could go back I would be running PSS10. I bought the KWs and the rear end sits way too low on my Allroad. I am currently battling with KW to get this resolved.

Thanks one of the complaints I've heard of KW, their rear springs tend to be too low or sag over time. It's one of the reason why they make coilover "spacers" to offer more height.

I bought mine from CARiD.com... about $2050 shipped, iirc. Can't recall install charge because I had several things done at the same time. But the $500 estimate doesn't seem too far off. Go with PSS10s! Do it once and do it right. Of course, others will say otherwise, but I've been down that route before... for me, this was the choice.

What are your thoughts on ride control? Seems only $100 more for on the fly control although I guess there are only 2 settings.

Sorry last question guys. Bringing an old thread back-- about to purchase either the PSS10 or B16 ride control. How easy is it to adjust the PSS10s? Can I do without the car on a lift? I do like the on the fly adjustment of the ride control for the simple ease of changing, however the precision of the PSS10 if adjustments are relatively easy

I have always wanted to do the PSS10's and after looking at how inexpensive they are for the off-road vehicles, frankly I'm kinda mad at what they cost for the street packages. I went with Vogtland due to their reputation and quality and they have the ability to adjust the perches without affecting the larger spring.

However, the dampening or compression knob controls would be nice to have and certainly I think the fronts are accessible from the ground?

Yes, a member on the S4 forums confirmed that they can be adjusted without being on a lift. Thanks!

The b16 requires a separate module. It's a bit more money. $600 for the install and alignment is a very fair price. I would recommend getting adjustable control arms to save your tires.

Adjusting the PSS10s are easy. The adjustment dial is on the bottom of the shock. If you're low, you'll have to slightly jack up each wheel, then dial to the setting you want.

I've been running the PSS10's since Easter this year, I've adjusted them on the fly many times, its not hard . I'm also not slammed (check my build to see my ride height) but i'm very low, i can still manage to stick my arm under and turn the knob, I have it memorized by now. I did like the idea of cruising on the highway when all of a sudden a Ferrari pulls up next to me, I stiffen it up by the push of a button, and then i show him who's boss, but besides that, pulling off and adjusting takes all of a couple minutes or less if your quick getting on the ground. Plus, a few times i've done it, people ask what i'm adjusting, and I love talking about the car, and well I'll just stop there...
