    New intake Camshaft needed

Does anyone know if the camshaft replacement requires disassembling the head and timing covers? One of the lobes on my intake cam rotated 15 degrees and Im told its $900 in labor and I got the part for $590. Just wondering if there is a simpler way to do it besides tearing the engine down for the second time in a month.

No other way to do it man, you have to disassemble the head. That being said your statement doesn't really make sense, they installed your cam and/or timing wrong? A cam cant just rotate 15 degrees on its own without failure.

Each cyl has two valves, each valve has its own lobe on the cam that pushes it down as the cam rotates. The lobes are pressure attached, its not a solid piece. One of the lobes in Cyl section of the cam rotated so one of them is straight and the other is turned 15 degrees which leaves it open when the other is closed and gives my car a misfire with no compression.

This is a known problem with the hydroformed camshafts....the cams are attached to the shaft when the hollow shaft is expanded by very high pressure water....apparently this does not work perfectly.....at least for Audi.

The cam chain has to come off, then remove the "valve cover", remove the HPFP, then the intake cam can be replaced. The head can stay on the block.

Not unheard of. Ran across this video some time ago. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vb2005a7KFo
Nice to know you can't trust the timing alignment without a complete removal and inspection of both cams end to end.
    Thanks, Audi.
