I'm not sure what I'm missing, but conceptually, it is very intuitive....but why is it not snapping in?

Also, the dealer said one of the clips were broken, but I don't know what clips they are talking about since I compared the new one to the "broke" one and they look the same....

I know the headliner needs to come down a bit, but can you get it to snap it and then pull the headliner over it or does it need that extra room to snap in?

    What a PITA!

I'm about to head down this path as well, due to my third brake light being intermittently out. I have swapped headliners, but never removed my third brake light; the links below may help.

Like I said, the concept is really easy and you would think it would just slide back in. I think I finally managed to get it to snap in. I'll see if it falls down any more, but the weird thing is, I still don't know what clips the dealership was saying were broken....I bet they were just having a hell of a time getting it to snap back in and assumed it was broke!

i bet you they told you something broke so they can charge you an additional 200000000.00 usd in parts and labor.

Aren't the clips for the light on the window itself? It doesn't clip into or under the headliner, but I think the headliner rests snugly around the light, so you will need to fit it under the headliner at some point. The only other clips are on the light itself, so if those look the same as the old one, I would guess its the clips on the window.

Then both "clips" are present....I wonder if the two metal tabs inside of the slots on the light are supposed to press down and then as they pass the edge of the two rails, they "snap" into place catching them and then the headliner just goes over it? I'll keep trying, but right now, they are not both snapped in, that is for sure

Ok, I think I got it figured out....the headliner was the problem the whole time. It is just too thick/sturdy to snap the light in place and then place the headliner over the lamp. So, I pulldown the headliner gently, while at the same time sliding the light back onto it....which allowed the light to have no problem sliding as far back as possible. Put the headliner back in place and done! Should the light fall back down, I'll keep the thread posted
