    Mechanical question

Hey everyone, I looking for a few opinions. I currently have a 2011 3.2L with 79,500 miles on it. I bought the car last year and purchased the extended warranty through the dealership. I have about 2 years or another 20k miles left on the warranty. I can cancel the warranty and get a check for about $1,800.

Any thoughts or experience with this model and is it worth it to keep the extended warranty? I've never had an extended warranty but I've heard they're known to wiggle out of any repairs.

And before anyone makes the comment, I would absolutely love to buy a used SQ5. But I don't have the green to do so right now

    Thanks everyone for any input.

3.2 NA engines with high mileage have a really bad Carbon Buildup history.

If you keep it, keep the warranty and engine/drivetrain a warranty in tact.
As long as you service it at the dealer you should be fine if you like the car.

If you have something else you like, take the check and get the new ride.
If you like what you have keep it as long as you have warranty. Then get out before it's gone.

So after Thunderdent's advice I kept the warranty. I took the car into the dealership for an oil change 2 weeks and that morning I get CEL. I pulled the codes and I'm getting a misfire in either one or two cylinders.

The Dealership has now replaced a fuel injector and has had the car for over 10 days. But they are still getting the misfire. Now they think one of the cams could have a flat spot? Not sure how that happens.

The extended warranty company has flown out and has asked that they open up the engine so they can do an inspection. My advisor is telling me once they open up the engine the Warranty Company could say no its not covered and I would be on the hook for $2k to reassemble the engine.

The warranty is not through Audi, it was a used car warranty. But I bought the highest level that should cover just about everything.

Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this, I have to give my advisor the okay to open it up this week.

I would think Audi could figure out a misfire issue and not have to pull apart the whole engine!

My concern is the warranty company is looking for something they don't cover and leave me completely high and dry with an engine fault and no coverage.

yeah....that is why it is advisable to stay away from aftermarket warranty providers. You are basically at their mercy.

At this point, you almost have to roll the dice.

    Good luck.

Which 3rd party warranty company is this? I just purchased a 2011 Audi Q5 with 3.2L and currently shopping for an extended warranty. Fidelity seems like the one everyone goes for here.

I wanted to give a big thank you to Joel and everyone for your comments for confirming what I thought about keeping my extended warranty... took the Q into the dealership for an oil change and happened to get a CEL that morning. Talked to my advisor, he looked into it and there turned out to be a worn roller and valve spring causing the misfire. Extended warranty flew out twice for inspection and in the end covered it in full. Saved me $3k for the service. Took them 6 weeks but I finally got her back today!
