Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
im debating on picking up an allroad.

its a 2004 with a blown head gasket. im assuming this isnt like no honda civic and is a little more detailed when doing engine work.

i will be doing my own work and have 2 cars to dily now so it can be down for a while.

    any input?

It is quoted as a 21 hour job skill level B according to alldata for one head. 26 hours for both.

doesnt seem to bad i guess. im replaced the head on my jeep and my civic. nothing as nice as an audi but i fell i could do it.

is 500$ a good deal for a blown allroad? im basically wanting to build it, get it running right and take it to colorado once we move back. we will scrap our altima(250k miles) and roll out with the jeep and hopefully, something awd.

maybe 2k invested once everything is said and done?

How many miles and what kind of condition? They are nice cars but with the allroad you can find your self dumping money into the air suspension system along with all the usual audi headaches.

So, title is missing, the front bumper looks to be painted fully, yea its pretty much 300-500$ worth of a car, possibly in scrap metal...

You could have bad turbo's. Who knows. A car with a blown head gasket should run. I am ambitious sometimes I think I would steer clear of that.

For a good Audi project or AWD project? From an AWD utility perspective Subaru's offer the same capabilities, are far easier to work on and far more reliable. Audi's are very complex with lots of parts. Generally this means more stuff to break and more parts to buy and more knowledge is required to maintain them.

id prefer awd. I just love the way the allroad looks tho.

side note: ive watched a few videos about the capabilities of the allroad vrs the outback and i was very impressed with the allroad.

i guess ill try to find a forester or something. i really like the audi's tho.

i don't know if the words 'reliable' and 'allroad' have ever been spoken in the same sentence.

The air suspension system is unreliable as it ages and is expensive to maintain.

    Air pump: $500
    Air Springs: $300 each (aftermarket)

The suspension components on these are cars are much more complex then your standard vehicle. Lots of bushings that usually need to be replaced every 60k-80k.

The auto trans are not very reliable and expensive to rebuild. The manuals are pretty robust.

Its not clear if this car is a 2.7T or a 4.2, but the 2.7T suffer from lots of oil leaks which requires seal replacement. They also have the turbos which have a finite lifetime. The bottom ends are pretty reliable.

I picked one up last year, ( '05 2.7t 6MT ) I knew the po and knew he was on top of all the maintenance and he bought it new. Long story short, I sold my POS Subaru Legacy ( which I had dumped thousands into) for 4K and bought the AR for 4.5k. As cars age you have to spend money and IMHO there's no other car I would rather put money into then my allroad.

i fell the same way honestly. if youre going to dump money into a car, might as well be a nice car.

side note: got a 100$ giftcard for 25k in sales this weekend(cook at a casino) and spent it all on a radiator since my had a waterfall when i got to work.

A $500 allroad is worth more in parts than purchase price. That one is not worth fixing imo/

    This ^

There is one on my local Craigslist Richmond, VA for $1500. Will need an auto tranny rebuild likely though.

That is a $4k repair on a 2.7T with 180k. Is that worth fixing?

There are people I honest to God hate, and even I wouldn't foist an Allroad with a salvage title on them.
