When pushing start sometimes I hear something mechanical around the front of the car

I have a new 2016 3.0T.

I can feel and hear something at the front of the car.

Most of the times I only hear the engine start, but on occasion I can feel something locking or something mechanical happening in the front.

Does this happen to anyone else?

Does anyone know why this would happen?

Should I be concerned?

Could it be the emergency brake? Sometimes mine gets loud when I engage it, but I usually only notice it when engaging it after the engine is off and not when I turn the emergency brake off.

To see if it is the emergency brake making its normal noise, park on a flat surface and when the Q5's engine is turned off pull up on the emergency brake and you should hear it engage.

If that isn't the noise your referring to, perhaps you could take a quick audio clip of the sound with your phone and share it here with members and that may help more members identify it for you.

Not sure what it is, but even if your car is off, and if you open your hood, you'll here a motor run for a few seconds.

Also, could be the dreaded 6-clicks that no one seems to know where they come from after you drive from a cold start about 1/8 mile.

i think it's normal. cars these days do a lot of "initializing" before startup. if i unlock my doors and get into the car, but don't start it right away, i hear some noises from the front too. sounds like servos moving things. this happens on my mini - like going into accessory mode or something.

My A5 did it, and my mk7 and SQ do it currently. No clue what it is, but it can occur pre and post. Hardly ever notice it now after so many years. I used to joke, the vehicle is calculating the lack of fuks I plan to give/gave on any certain day You're good though. I assume the ECU is scanning.

It's scanning alright. Gaining knowledge. It'll be full on AI soon enough.

The wheels were actually balls using what I presume to be mag-lev.

Thanks for everyone's reply. It is just strange that sometimes it does it and most times it doesn't. You can feel a small jerk in the car. I will try to record it.

I am on a flat surface. Not using emergency breaks. Maybe it is checking that sometimes and causing the noise. I don't know.

I have had this same issue since new.... aSKED DEALER TO CHECK but got the same usual answer so i stopped caring....

you have this issue also? have you ever had em checked? I think its got to do with the gearbox or something?

Yeah, it's like clockwork. If I leave for work, every morning at almost the exact same spot in the road, you'll hear 6 perfectly audible electric click sounds. It sounds like it's coming from the MMI screen area.

Then after I drive about 35 min or so, randomly, they'll be either another 3 clicks or sometimes 6.

No clue what it is. Lots of people say it happens as well. It's annoying.
Whatever it is wasn't there in my B8 2011 Q5 with MMI/NAV.
But is there on the facelift B8.5 2015 SQ5.
