    Ignition cylinder starting to stick?

The mechanism in the ignition cylinder has been sticking on me. Most commonly the past few months I take my key out and then 5 seconds later the cylinder clicks shut instead of right away, sometimes it stays open. I believe it is the steering lock mechanism I'm hearing.

Today for the first time after driving my key was much harder to pull out. I don't want to get stuck anywhere. Is there something common that breaks inside the ignition cylinder or ignition bracket that houses the steering lock? I have a newish cheap aftermarket key but it turns the cylinder perfectly.

There is a small tab that turns the ignition switch, inside of the cylinder lock, which isn't the strongest of parts. That will be your weakest point.

What do you mean by "cylinder clicks shut", the steering locks? The ignition clicks to off?

I posted recently on a R/R for the cylinder lock in the What did you do to your Audi today topic, could be a few picture to help out. It wasn't a tough job to replace, just make sure you keep the clock spring from unraveling.

I just mean the loud thud you hear when pulling the key out, turning the key both directions is fine, right now at least.
