    Passenger Airbag Recall!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Got this letter from Audi today, I'm sure multiple others will as well. Just chatting with the service advisor at my local dealership, this has been an issue with multiple manufacturers and just recently discovered among Audis. He mentioned it COULD be anywhere from 9-12 MONTHS before parts are available. So if I am to read this correctly, I am not supposed to let anyone ride in my front passenger seat for 9-12 months.....

I hope his time estimate was very very wrong. He made it sound like it isn't a big deal and Audi hasn't specifically heard of any issues where the airbag failed, but I'm not going to chance it. The issue seems to lie WHEN the airbag deploys, not that it deploys when it shouldn't. And it could result in major injury and/or death.

I wanted to open this thread so that everyone was aware, and also so that people could update us with whatever their dealer is telling them which will hopefully be that the parts will be available much sooner than I was told.....

Well that sucks. I got a similar letter about 6 months ago for my wife's Subaru legacy. Still can't make an appointment to get it fixed due to 'parts shortage'

Yep I guess it's Audi's turn now. Apparently the large majority of manufacturers use these airbags for their cars. I'm assuming that will change after this incident. What a pain in the arse.

The cabriolets were recalled first. They added us recently (04-08). I looked up my vin and it actually shows i was added to the recall database May 27th.

Interesting that you say that.. I saw someone post their letter on the B7 Facebook group this morning so I called my dealer to ask about it and gave them my VIN. He came back and said nah you're good this recall only affects cabriolets. Then I checked my mail two hours later and got the letter ha

With so many B7's recently totaled, I'm sure some of them will chime in and mention wether they had someone in the passenger seat with or without an airbag being deployed.

May wanna double check on that website.. They told me mine wasn't included the first time I called this morning because they were looking at the one that only involved cabriolets. Just an opinion, might be nice to have the peace of mind!

I have two recall notices for the same issue for my Jeep. Roughly the same estimate on a fix time too. No idea when the parts will be available, just talk to the dealer. This issue is affecting multiple manufacturers, that's for sure.

Had the same recall notice on my 2006 A4 arrive today. Luckily for me the cars only been in dry climates (las vegas, San francisco and Southern California). Still going to get it fixed ASAP anyways. I thought I had checked the VIN a few months prior which came back clean....

I thought it was only US based cars initially? That would explain your northern exclusion.

In the pas 2 years we have had a 3 airbag recalls. 2 for a 2001 Honda Civic (driver and passenger), and 1 in an Acura El (passnager). The Acura El is a Canada only model. All made by Takata I believe and all with the same potential failure. I doubt Audi would use different airbags for Canada and the US, which means we will all be on that recall list eventually. Only time will tell if its passenger only, or passanger AND driver airbags being recalled.

I got my letter today as well. Ill have to go to Audi tomorrow since it right next to my work (Acura).

Hopefully theyll have them sooner than 9-12 months.

For Acura were in full swing with airbags, been doing them for months. We have costumers leave theyre cars at the dealership for months and we have to put the in a rental car since theyre airbags could kill them. Wonder if Audi will do the same

VIN checked out as recall but haven't received anything in the mail yet. To be honest I am more concerned about the dealer ripping out my perfectly good-looking dash for repairs than the recall itself. If they don't do it right, I am left with visible damages and/or non-functional airbag, or worst. I have pretty much lost hope in all of Audi's service dept. personnel and techs.

I wasn't suggesting that different air bags were used. Only that Audi is not recalling canadien based cars at this point. Not that they wont at some point.

Got the letter yesterday for my 2006. I'm guessing this is going to be at least a 6 month wait. I bet Audi service desks' phones are slammed this morning!

Just got my letter today and this was my first concern as well, I may end up removing the tablet and everything associated with it before taking it in. Pain in the butt to remove it all, just off the top of my head I am going to need to remove the power supply, USB hub and wiring, DSP remote and wiring all from the glovebox.

Im pretty sure the passenger airbag wouldnt need dash remov.

On the acuras it requires dropping the glove box and its bolted in behind it

Checked my VIN yesterday and my passenger side is recalled as well.

As far as a loaner/rental form the dealer, I wouldnt hold my breath. My coworker's A3 had both driver and passenger airbags recalled with no exact ETA of a fix and flat out refused to give him a loaner.

Volvo is the same way (the 90's ones anyways)

I just picked up a 2005.5 last weekend, I checked the vin on link provided above and it said I had nothing but is there a way I should update my address as the owner now through Audi or something to make sure I get the letter?

We've bought and sold cars before and had the recalls go to P/o and come to us (ones we've sold) so it isn't (always) automatically changed to new owner, anyone know how to??

Checked my VIN yesterday and my passenger side is recalled as well.

As far as a loaner/rental form the dealer, I wouldnt hold my breath. My coworker's A3 had both driver and passenger airbags recalled with no exact ETA of a fix and flat out refused to give him a loaner.
Makes sense, they cant give you a loaner for 6 months. Thats retarded. They would lose millions instantly.

Acura gave the directive to allow costumers to get rental cars that acura would pay for.

I think if the car is registered to you you'll end up getting them sooner or later. But entering your VIN into the site should suffice, unless your car simply hasn't been added to the recall yet.

It just seems that it would be weird if Audi used takata airbags on only some 2005.5 but not all of them? since there are already people from the same year who have gotten their letters, I'll just keep an eye on the website. Hopefully it will find me, I was asking cause ford had a website when you bought a car you entered all the info for you to make sure you got your shit
