Maximum towing capacity for B8.5 S4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Considering going to the dragon with my bike but I don't care to ride it there and back. Was considering getting a hitch on the S4. Would be towing just the bike and a very light trailer.

Has anyone does this and what's the towing capacity of the S4?

You could for sure tow a motorcycle on a bike trailer.

    I agree, no issues.

I looked it up in the past and could do a Jet Ski.

What about 2 bikes? Lol both bikes weight a total of around 750-800 lbs with fluids.

As long as you get a hitch rated for that amount. As mentioned above, the S4 is rated for 3500+ lbs with a proper hitch.

as Lindw4ll stated, the S4 is rated to tow about 3,500lbs (trailer with brakes), however, most available hitches for the B8 chassis are only Class 1 hitches and are rated up to 2,000lbs with tongue weight of 200lbs.

that said, I have the curt hitch on mine

The tow capacity for a trailer with brakes is 4,200lbs, not 3,500. It doesn't matter, since most tow hooks you'll get for the car won't be rated anywhere near that, but it's a point of fact :)

keep in mind that you will have to cut the diffuser (3.25" x 2.25") for the hitch to fit

I have signed up for a track day for my Exige... it weighs a smidge over 2000lb, would it be feasible to hook up a hitch and tow the Exige with my S4?

Does your trailer not have brakes and weigh over 1500 lbs? What is the rating of your hitch? These are the actual questions.

I own an Elise and came across this thread trying to find out the same answer. I love my lotus on the track, but I am really starting to hate driving it to events over 3 hours away with no A/C. I am not wiling to give up a fun daily driver to be able to tow my car to the track 10 weekends a year. There are 700 lb aluminum trailers that fit the elige which would keep the weight under 3000 lbs. I would do it if it were safe but I know nothing about towing. If you ever try, please let me know how it goes.

Hey, I am the dude that whiped pointed at the curt hitch... found that it would be too low with lowering springs to get into my driveway. If you are interested in buying it for dirt+shipping, it is brand new and sitting in my garage.

    PM me if interested.
