Fogs (HID/Xenon vs Hoen match vs LED)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know it's been beaten to death. I've read a lot on it.
Don't know if LED will actually be brighter here or not.

Is Xenon upgrade worth it? Is it hard to do? This probably offers the very best performance.

I had the Hoen H11 xenon color match on the last car. They worked fine with no codes. But other than a color match, there is no better performance here.

I want to stay with white. This is a really good write up I found.
Not sure which to do. I'm not getting them for looks. I'm getting them for visibility/performance for dark cornering driving and for fog and snow squal driving. I've needed them several times in my life in a bad way.

Funny you bring this up. I just converted my Hoen Xenon Match Bulbs to the New Philips X-Treme LED Bulbs and I will tell you what an amazing bulb! Really super impressed with color match and brightness that really lights up the road. Here's the link...... http://www.usa.philips.com/c-p/78719...n-led-fog-lamp

I purchased the platinum ziza bulbs from ECS Tuning. They're a close match to the HID's.

Timely thread indeed. I have the Ziza platinum bulbs from ECS (good match to the xenons) but have been thinking a LED would be better suited. I never use fogs for fog lights, so I'm more concerned with a match to the drls for aux lighting like drl fogs and/or coming home lights. The question for me is what LEDs to go with. I've had great experience with Vleds in the past but recently deauto has been solid too.

Looks like KMart is a retailer for them according to that site. I'm sure I could find on Amazon.
I wonder what the output difference is between them and the deAuto ones?

I've seen a lot saying LED is not the best for fogs, but maybe it's come a long way.

Which D3S bulbs did you get? I've tried CBI's and currently have the Philips XV. Not really seeing much of a difference in brightness so going with Ecodes to see if there's an improvement.

I have a wholesale Acct from retrofit source. Tried there own brand bulb in a 5500k. I noticed a huge difference, but I did it at the same time as my ecodes.

Here is the link, if you want to try a set, I can get a slightly better deal on them, let me know.

I tried the XB 5500k on my allroad and even after burning them in, there was a greenish/yellow tint that I couldn't live with. Not sure if it was the windshield because when looking at the lights from the front, they were white. How bright are the ACME fogs? And how do they fit with the regulator?

I'm not getting any greenish tint, maybe a defective set?

The Acme fit right in, no fitment issues whatsoever. They are very bright, actually much brighter than I expected them to be.

The match for the Phillips LED is good to the drl or the headlights? They are listed as 6000K, so I'd think they wouldn't match the headlights too well and might even be pushing it for the drls. I think the drls are ~5000k, so I'm trying to base all my led fogs off of those.

just reminding you that you may need to add the resistors to the deAutoLED ones you're looking at,

    per the website:
"Resistors are needed for all CANBUS cars! The resistors is an easy direct plug and play installation, simply mount the metal resistor to any metal on your engine bay as it will get hot. Resistors can be purchased on the drop down menu below"

Thanks for suggesting our company - the de360 uses an upgraded philips lumiLED model so it is brighter.(9000 total lumens)

Our LEDs also turn 360 degrees so you can achieve the best beam angle in your reflector housing - all reflectors aim light differently from the LEDs depending on how they are aimed in your housing and why we went with the 360 design.

This customer did the review in his passat b7 which once you look at it is very simple and the thread will show how big of a difference the direction of the LED made - this is the same model and setup in all Q model cars also:
    http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-Fog-Light-Kit

And as we said, this does need the gold resistors which eliminates any errors or flickering, and yes this has a ballast which allows for the high lumen rating (9000lm) BUT IT IS VERY SIMPLE to install:

Bulb direction - [This is LED bulb in both sides but passenger has bulb in vertical position casting light horizontally and drivers with bulb in horizontal position casting light vertically.]

We have sold many of these kits with no returns/issues or complaints, only great feedback, we feel it is worth the extra install of the gold resistors for this setup.

    Video:

We have these installed in the q model too and we have heard they matched nicely - we also have d3s/d2s bulbs that match the OEM LEDs on the mk7 and are brighter than OEM if anyone is interested in those also - they are LESS money than our competitors and BRIGHTER. We will end this by saying we honestly 100% feel we are a trusted brand that has been in the VW/Audi community for over 10 years providing only the BEST LEDs we tested to work prior to selling them for your car.

Xenon d3s review - it s very difficult to create a light that is 5k/6k clean white and BRIGHTER than OEM 4300K but we did it:

So you're saying that your bulb is brighter and better than an Osram CBI or Philips XV? Can you give me more specs on your D3S bulbs?

We will end this by saying we honestly 100% feel we are a trusted brand that has been in the VW/Audi community for over 10 years providing only the BEST LEDs we tested to work prior to selling them for your car.

Xenon d3s review - it s very difficult to create a light that is 5k/6k clean white and BRIGHTER than OEM 4300K but we did it:

We never tested it against the Philips - but we feel they are brighter and whiter vs the OSRAM we seen - this is our opinion and the opinion of a few who used both - a big focus is the color temperature, the OSRAM/PHILIPS won't come anywhere close to our clean white color temp - some have said it took them a few weeks for their osram/philips to burn in but if you compare ours next to a burnt in osram/philips they are still not as white in color temperature as our D/xenon models:

Here's what I'm looking at (plug 'n play, no ballasts):
    Phillips 6000k, 2500lm (~$140): https://www.amazon.com/Philips-X-tre.../dp/B00KTZB0EQ
    Vleds SMZ 5000k/6000k, 2400lm (~$130): http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbe...s/smz-h11.html
    M'Autolight 5500k, 2500lm (~$70...on sale until 8/14): http://www.hidconcept.com/h11-mautol...headlight-kit/

Ballasts (not a big deal considering our fog housing setup):
    deAutoLED 6000k, ????lm (~$150): http://deautokey.com/product/led-hea...ast-1800-lumen
    Vleds LMZ 5000k/6000k, 3000lm (~$135): http://www.vleds.com/h11-lmz.html

    Just for looks/DRLs:
    Vleds XTE 5000k/6000k, 750lm ($50): http://www.vleds.com/shop-bulb-numbe...bs-1-pair.html
They match very well with the DRL but not so much with the headlights. You could always get these to have a complete match.

OSRAM CBI are normally $120 a bulb and $220 for a pair & what we paid during our testing for an authentic set.

ThunderDent - we sent you a PM with some of our thoughts, we'd like to setup some testing with our D3S and new LEDs as we did with the CC/MK6/7 D3S/LEDs - we feel we have a good product many will be happy with as they worked and looked great in the VW models so they should also work and look great in the Audi model.

    Thank you
