    02 AVK 3.0 What is this hole???

    Ok, I have an AVK 3.0L replacement motor on a stand. This is my first time working on an Audi, so please forgive my ignorance, But I see this football-shaped hole here. On drivers side of engine near oil cooler. Is it supposed to be there? If not, how could it have gotten there, what could have possibly caused it, and can it be fixed? Thanks in advance.
