    1.8t feels rough help

    Hi guys when driving the audi it feels rough through the peddles of this makes sense it's coming from front passenger side and when I put it on full lock to right it feels worse I checked my drive shafts but there doesn't seem to be excessive play and other ideas

    Check the left side wheel bearing for wear.

    Spun the wheel and it seems OK when I'm slowing down with Windows open the is a humming noise

    Check for wheel bearing play with the tyre on and off the ground. Put your hand on the 3 and 9 o'clock position and give her a good shake. Shouldn't be much play and all if any. If your tyre is new then it has to be the bearing. Not many moving parts there. You could have a hung caliper or warped rotor but that would be painfully obvious.

    Spinning the wheel wont tell you a whole lot about the bearing condition. Even the ol' 3/9 shake test I haven't had much luck with. Find some open road and do a slalom test, weaving back and forth loading alternating sides of the car. When the passengers side is loaded you should notice the sound being more audible if it is the wheel bearing. If you are right hand drive (?) then turning hard right at speed should produce an audible sound if the bearing is bad.

    That describes it mate when there is load on that side it gets worse even though it feels rough when wheels are straight it get worse when going round roundabouts. I did think It could be cv joint

    I ask this because you're describing a hum, I had some worn out goodyear eagle rs2 on my car when I bought it, the tread was ok but caused a bad hum, thinking it was my wheel bearings I replaced the front with no change. Turned out to be my tires. You can try raising the car and put it in drive / first gear and start the wheels turning, touch the coil spring with your hand it should be smooth. Bad bearings most of the time will transmit vibration to the coil springs depending how bad they are.

    When you turn hard right, the load is transferred to the left wheel, and vice versa. Therefore, when turning hard right and the symptom is worse, the left side wheel bearing is implicated as faulty. If that is the case replace both left and right side wheel bearings together.

    Thanks looking at it is the wheel bearings an easy replace just take the shaft out of the hub and undo the 4 bolts that hold bearing in place and replace

    Also,

    Any turning, changes where the loading occurs within the bearings, both sides. That will change the noise, since it's typically the races that have deteriorated the most and a turn changes where the races are loaded. One way to troubleshoot tire noise is to change inflation pressure; Wheel bearing noise will stay the same, tire noise will change. A wheel bearing that is noisy going straight, should feel rough when you spin it. Its easier to feel the problem when the tire and axle are disconnected. If it bearings, over inflate the tire and the noise should stay the same.

    Can I just suggest to also have a very close look at your CV boots for holes/grease and play in the axle shafts if you're replacing your bearings. If you are getting any clicking/snapping when going over bumps/lips at slow speed, say into a driveway, or when turning the wheel into/out of a parking space it may be worth doing the axles at the same time. You will need new axle bolts as well either way. Axles will come out just undoing the axle bolt and 6 (?) inner housing bolts. Push inside end up and inwards while pulling outside end back and down. Sometimes rotating the inside end, due to the shape, will allow you to push it up further into the car to get the outside end out of the hub (you will see what I mean). Also, how much you have the wheel turned away from the side you are working on as well as the suspension geometry etc. will make it easier to pull the axle out although the last time I did it (last weekend) the axle came out and went in easier with the wheels almost straight. The last time I did it I had the wheel turned hard over.

    There are some good DIYs online for both. Ensure you have a breaker bar and approx. 4ft. pipe for the axle bolts, as well as the correct socket for the inside axle bolts before you start.

    17mm allen socket and a good set of triple squares. Been there done it got the tshirt😝
