    Bilstein PSS10 B16 Clunking Noise

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently purchased a brand new set of Bilstein PSS10 B16 that was professionally installed in my 2011 Audi A4 (B8). I'm quite please with the ride quality and drive. However, the front end seems to make clunking & popping sound when driving on imperfections on the road at a lower speed. The ride height was kept slightly higher to ensure I can drive the vehicle in summer and winter conditions so I could say for certain this sound isn't coming from the wheel coming in contact with the wheel well. Additionally the ride isn't low to a point where this would be a concern.

Any help will be greatly appreciated?

I'll give the shop the benefit of the doubt, but there might be a chance that your tophat nut, isn't properly torqued down onto the shock. Bilstein recommends that ALL tophat nut to be hand torqued and not impact torqued down. What happens is, if it isn't torqued down, there will be "travel play" when you're compressed. I've ran into this issue a few times and almost every time, the tophat nut wasn't torqued down properly.

Thanks a lot for advice... I'll take it back to my mechanic to discuss

They are fantastic! Sorry it took me this long to provide and update. Quite possibly the best coils in the market. Clunking was due to small install oversight of not tightening the top nut. Took it back to my mechanic shortly after the install and it was all taken care of.
