    Door wiring connector issue

    Hello all,

    So I've got the dreaded broken wires in the wiring loom to the driver's side door and I know it's just a matter of replacing the loom, thing is I am unable to unclip it since the connector is broken.
    Basically I cannot disconnect the door wiring from the car itself so I cannot solder nor I can replace the wiring loom. It seems that both the door side plastic clip and car side clip are broken. I've had one car electric over and when he saw it he just said he's not going to do it and left.
    Door often gets stuck locked or unlocked with all electricity being gone and sometimes makes contact again. It's really been driving me nuts getting in through the passenger's door since I'm really tall.
    Anyone else had to deal with this? What are my options, what should I do? Please help me out here.

    Before talking electrics, why can't you unlock and lock the driver's door with the key? That does not require the lock electrical function.

    To replace the door wiring harness, cut the wires next to the connector on the outside, then bring both connected wire harness connectors to the inside under the dash, then separate the door jamb wiring connector from the inside wiring harness connector. Next, remove the old door harness and install a new replacement door wiring harness. Secure the fixed harness connector in the door jamb hole, then connect the inside wiring harness connector to the door wiring harness connector at the door jamb.

    Replace the door wiring harness with a new part. Used wiring harnesses are usually unreliable, having a lot of the stress and strain on the door jamb wires already compromising the remaining installed life span.

    Do not use solder to repair any broken wires. Solder joints cannot withstand the vibration and flexing in the wires that occurs with automotive wiring. Use only properly sized crimp connectors. Properly sized and crimped wire joints are usually stronger than the wires being joined together. Uninsulated crimp connectors, insulated with sealed heat shrink tubing is prefered compared to insulated crimp connectors.

    Audi officially prohibits service technicians from using soldered joints for wiring repairs.

    Thank you a lot, I'll try that out immediately when the harness arrives! The only worrying part for me is separating the wiring connector from the inside, hopefully it will be separable somehow and I wont have to cut it too..

    Just to clarify:




    You definitely don't want to cut the wiring harness on the inside of the door jamb connector. With the connected door jamb connector moved inside under the dash, disconnecting the inside harness from the door harness connector should be a lot easier. The harness connector is held together with clips on the body of the connector, the clips must be pressed to disconnect the inside half of the door jamb connector from the outside half of the connector.

    Here is a picture of a good terminal block. The purple plastic piece at the top pushes forward towards the front of the car then then the block can come out. In your situation try using a screwdriver and push what is left of your purple piece forward. Good luck.

    Are you having difficulties disconnecting the plug not only due the broken connector but due to the limited space. I think you can remove the door, support it on jack stands and get additional space by opening it wider to get better access to the connector and maybe avoid having to go in under the dash.

    yup yup i had to do this exact same thing.
    1. the purple clip - need to push this forward to push the block inside the car. (as mentioned)
    2. replacement number must match exactly. i ordered a replacement with just the last number being different. did not work.
    3. i did take the door off initially when i didn't know about the purple clip. definitely helped, and easy install/removal.
    4. butt connectors (crimp connectors) are awesome and will solve your problem.

    I've had the ground wire replaced "twice" to solve similar problems. Keep it simple...just keep it running.
