Wtf is wrong with people..sigh. Any ideas on how to restore key scratch?

Doesn't look so bad after I cleaned it up a bit, but still hurts knowing some asshole did it on purpose.

This is why you should invest in a dashcam.
The video below shows someone keying my car last Wednesday at the gym.
I had him arrested and im pressing charges.
I never talked to him or had any encounter with him or anyone else at the gym. Totally unprovoked.

you've been watching too many OJ documentaries. this video would be plenty enough evidence to at the very least nail this guy for a tort. i think it's more than enough to find him guilty of criminal charges too.

I can't get justice, but I'm happy that you will. Makes me feel a little better actually =). Again NO MERCY for this senseless act. I would like to know what is going on in these people's head. Especially, this guy since he also double parked LOL....Did someone keyed his car for being a d-bag and he took it out on the only other car he saw???

PS: was thinking about getting a dashcam when I first got the car, but never pulled the trigger. Got a radar detector instead =(

You're going to be disappointed with any touch-up paint. Even Dr. Color Chip, which is pretty forgiving stuff. I mentioned this in another thread, but some polishing effort will minimize the damage. Good luck with everything.

oh fml...I took my car to the detailer that did my Opti-coat this morning. He suggested having the whole door panel repainted. I'd think that would make it worse? Since the paint color wouldn't match with the rest of the car and its a whole door.

Yea I think a good wet sand in that spot, and some touch up, and polish would do wonders. It'll definitely take it from eye sore to completely bearable.

That vid had me seething at my desk... This is why sometime I am glad CCW is HARD to get in Maryland... Not very often, but sometimes.

Yea would think so. I took it too a repair shop , referred by my detailer
Was quoted 400 for painting that section and the surrounding area..was told it might still be noticeable due to the slight difference in pain color
If I do a quarter of the of the front door and quarter of the back panel too its'll have better results because its'll blend in.. Won't be able to tell the difference... $877

It also sucks that I have limited choices here in New Mex

Ouch. Sorry to hear that. Sounds like it went through the clear. Touch-up, wet sand, and polish is an option, but that approach gets much better results on rock chips. A long, linear scratch....not so much. I'm not convinced you'd need to do a lot of paint blending, though. The texture would be more of a concern than the color, and a good painter can match that over a surprisingly small area.

Given that it's summer time, it might be worth talking with a couple of shops. When I started detailing I'd send business to a favorite local shop. He clued me in that good weather is bad news since there are far fewer accidents. Small cash jobs he scoffs at in the winter months become anything to keep his guys working in the summer. Worth a shot... Good luck.
