    Clogged cats?

Hello Audiziners. So I was logging my mass air flow rate with the torque app and It seems im only getting around 140-145 g/s max. I was doing both 2nd and 3rd gear pulls. Im thinking clogged cats since I was getting cat efficiency cel before. I had it coded out with a tune. So far ive changed Ignition coils, spark plugs, mass air flow sensor, pcv, a few vacuum lines, and the air filter. Although the car feels better I cant seem to get above 145 g/s in this hot California weather. Soooo with that said, what do you guys think? Anything else I should check?

    Btw this is a 03 A4 3.0 quattro with 6 speed.

Plural cats? 3.0l? If 1.8T, requested vs actual boost? if the mass air flow is insufficient, actual boost would not achieve requested. Consider installing a Milltek HFC regardless. The Milltek is $$$ but has a full compiment of catalyst metals, not a thin layer like the 034 HFC.

I actually did get an ecu from K0mpressed so I dont get a cat efficiency cel. I dont think guttin them would let me pass cali emissions though. But im hella tempted to..

What RPM was that flow rate at, what elevation are you at, and what was the outside air temp? Also, Torque isn't that good for logging info as the scan rate is too slow from my experience. I doubt you have a clogged cat unless you got it hot enough to melt the metal support structure of it, which also make gutting them quite difficult.

Ill re log maf in a bit. Unfortunately torque is all I have right now as the pc I used for vag isnt working right atm. Im near ground lvl but it was hot as hell today. 108 degrees Fahrenheit 308' above sea lvl. I sure do hope the cats arent clogged..Would a faulty 02 sensor couse bad maf readings? Car runs fine besides it being slow. My power band feels flat as hell. No Oomph.

No idea how to save line graphs on torque but basicly I started at about 110 g/s at 3.3k rpms and went WOT. Maf rate was pretty flat climbing steadly to 141 g/s @ 6500 rpms which is when I shifted. No drops in air flow rate.

I'm not sure if that is good or not, but having 100°-110°F weather sure isn't going to help your car, and it may be why it feels so slow. Any chance you could get the intake air temps and timing as well? The ECU is likely pulling back some timing due to the temperatures, which would make it worse.

Intake temps where somwhere in the 30s Celcius while accelerating. Im gonna re do my pcv just in case. Before I just bought that pancake valve and used silicone hoses. This time I bought the oem kit with the plastic hoses. Also gonna once over all my vavuum lines. I havent checked timing yet though.

California emissions for cars 1995 and newer do not require a sniffer test. It's 100% obd2. They check your readiness, if everything passes you pass.

If you were local I'd hook you up with my dude.

My car is 100% not street legal in any way. But I don't obey nazi laws.

Also, I say gut the cats, because smog shops still do visual. So if you have test pipes.or something not OEM they can fail you. But if they see oem cats they don't know if they're gutted or not ;)

Just get high flow cats, something good quality with a metal core.

Read above. California doesn't allow high flow cats or any aftermarket cats.

Nor does it allow gutting any cats.

Good luck with that kompresd tune. I kept blowing coil packs with it on my 3.0. Also, I don't think you're gonna pass emissions as the monitors are eliminated on his tune and not actually coded to pass. In regards to flow rate, I don't recall what my MAF reads, but if I remember right, I'm not too far off from what yours are.

They don't Rev the shit out of your car. They plug in the obd2, if it passes all readiness, you are on your way.

I'm all for HFC but our nazi state doesn't allow anything, even if it's better for the environment.

While you may believe this method is in your best interest for where you live, the information I posted along with John (diagnosticator), is the best bet for everyone else on the forum.

The thread was posted by someone in my area. Regarding smog in our area.

All information is good, but not all information is accurate regarding specific demographical regions.
