Just figured out Dealer screwed me on warranty

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have had my 2011 since May 2014. Bought it used from Vision Audi in Reading PA with 49K miles, Traded my leased my Leased 2014 S4 in and was $1200 underwater on the deal. Here's my issue. I paid $2700 for a 3 yr/36K miles Silver Fidelity warranty. Today, I was cleaning out the glove compartment and found ALL the purchase info on both the original and second owner of the car. In the documents, I found that the second owner bought the car CPO'd. Am I wrong, or could that warranty have been transferred to me when I purchased the car? I assume the dealer did not tell me about the CPO warranty so he could make profit on the Fidelity warranty. 2 yrs after the fact, I assume I have no recourse. Of course, if the dealer had removed all the info from previous owners, I would have never knew. I should have looked at this Immediately after I bought the car. My Bad. Also, should the dealer have protected the information and details of the transaction of the previous owners? I think their confidentiality has been violated. I have names, addresses etc. Thoughts?

Start with AoA - ask them if CPO warranties are transferable. If not then no foul. If yes then perhaps you can get them to extend the current warranty for free. I doubt they will cut you a check for anything.

I would be happy for them to just extend my warranty.

I think the CPO may be transferable BUT ONLY privately.

My used '12 went through the same predicament because my car's CPO did not transfer to the dealer I bought it from. I'm at 58,000 miles with no issues and have a feeling I won't need it anyway.

Only private party. Through a dealer it goes away. Weird.

Just figured out Dealer screwed me on warranty

Here's the deal with the CPO:

It is transferable through private party ONLY if the private seller is the original purchaser of the CPO vehicle from an Audi dealer.
Audi then requires a $150 transfer fee, bill of sale, and a signed and notarized form by both the seller and buyer to transfer the CPO. They then review it, and at their discretion will transfer the CPO over to the new buyer. *This is important to understand since there is a lot of buying and selling of used cars on this forum and most people think it transfers automatically with the car*
Once the car and CPO become property of the new owner, it is NO LONGER transferable to another party. Even if the new owner wanted to sell it a week later, doesn't matter. Audi won't transfer it more than once.

In the case of the OP, once a CPO car goes to a dealer, the car is no longer CPO. Audi makes their dealers pay them a close to $2k fee to re-certify the car in order to be able to sell it as certified pre owned.
OP you're good, you didn't get screwed over, but why did it take you two years to go through the glove compartment on a used car?

This. I completely do not understand this. Have you not cleaned the car? Or even used it? You've had the car two years and you haven't looked in the glove compartment?

I had looked through all the paperwork after I got the car. Somehow I overlooked the the CPO paperwork. It was folded in between some other paperwork. Not on excuse. As I said before, My bad. But really, should the Audi dealer not have included this paperwork for confidentiality reasons?

I've had not the best experience with that dealership. They don't detail/clean the used stock very well.

The dealership would just claim it would run concurrently because the aftermarket warranties have different coverage than the CPO warranties.

Unfortunately, you have to buy a used car at the dealer who has the car. You can't order a used car from your local dealer. I live in The Lehigh Valley, so I have no need to deal with them any more.
