Strange oil reading after top up

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a question so maybe somebody experienced the same.

I have been monitoring the oil level in my 2.0 TDI Q5 and it was either full or 20% less than full on the MMI.

Than it dropped to 50% and I was thinking I should buy more oil to top it up. Today I see it dropped to 80% less than full ( on the MMI) so I bought some oil and added 250 mililiters as per manual. After 1 day of driving oil level went to 50% on MMI. I added again 250 ml and it went down to 80% less! How is this possible? Oil light never came on, so is it possible that much oil is missing? Shall I add more? I am afraid not to overdo it.

What year is the Q5? Could be warrantied for the oil consumption issue. Sounds suspiciously like what happened to my GF's.

I know on the S4 B8 side there is a sensor in the hood latch that will throw the oil mmi reading off if it goes bad. Definitely get a dipstick before you keep dumping oil in it.

    Late 2011

Car has 3000 miles left before oil change. Until now oil level was good. What I did (and in a hindsight was stupid) I left the ignition on when I opened the hood and did the top up. I give it a day or two and see if level gets where it should be if not I will ask Audi to check it with a dipstick.

I just rechecked level on MMI with engine cold (not driven 1 day) and it shows somewhere around 35-40% less than full but also says warm up engine to get accurate measurement.

I opened the hood and checked there is no oil anywhere and closed it, this reseted the oil level on the MMI so I will take it for a 30 minutes drive today and see what gives.

Engine 2.0TDI not consume oil as 2.0TFSI.
Try on European forums, on the North American market there is no Q5 2.0TDI

So finally result! After 30 minutes of drive oil level shows 20% less than full on MMI. It's exactly what I added (500 ml) so it shows the quantity OK.

Now I won't be adding anymore, should be fine for the next 3000 miles before the oil change :)

500 ml lost on 15k miles oil, doesn't sound bad at all for a TDI.

It's still worth getting a dipstick, they're not expensive.
