Honestly, they're both pretty close performance wise, I based my decision on which had a dealer that was the most convenient for me to get to

So I went and researched GIAC and found out that you can get their stage 2 kid for around 1800. Which is similar to the APR stage 2 in price. I like that the GIAC has a hand held programmer so I could switch from the 93 octane tune to a 100 octane tune if I wanted.

What I want to know is does the APR tune come with transmission tune/ setting changes as well included in the price?
The GIAC has a separate tune you can purchase for the Shift tronic transmissions that is about $680 more on top of the $1800.

The transmission software is for the dual clutch transmission in the S4. GIAC does not offer transmission software for the 6-speed ZF tiptronic in the A6. Both tunes are pretty close performance-wise. Only difference is that GIAC offers program switching if that's something you're interested in.

Besides the tune nothing for stage 1, but stage 2 or above would need a HPFP kit.

Dumb question: for either tune option, do you buy the product from GIAC or APR first and then go to an authorized dealer to get the mod "installed"?

No, the "authorized retailer" of GIAC or APR sells and installs the tune. You don't pay GIAC or APR directly.

I don't know why you would want to do that. Adding the pulley without the software will not improve your performance. The stock ECU tune is going to tell the system to blow off the additional pressure.

Thanks. I'll be posting before and after dyno numbers. I'm having my exhaust installed on the 23rd, so I'll do a pull before and after that, and then next will be installing the pulley and belt, then the tune on the dyno. Only engine performance mods will be an AFE Filter with custom intake piping, custom 2.5" catback exhaust, the stage 2 pulley and tune. I'm shooting for 400awhp on 93 octane. There is 100 octane locally on a pump here too. May get a tune for that as well.

    Until then....

Looks like I'm gonna have to go GIAC stage 2 tune. The guy that was going to tune mine can't because the software will not read the 8pin CAN chip in my ECM. :/ So hopefully the GIAC can get me close to the 400awhp mark. If not on 93 octane then hopefully the 100 octane tune will do it.

When I emailed GIAC asking that question, this was the response I got:

"GIAC software you will gain about 80hp and almost 30 ft-lbs of torque at the crank. The pulley adds another 15 to 20 hp and 10 to 15 ft-lbs of torque."
