    Water Meth tank size

For those of you guys that have installed a water meth setup and placed the tank in the back panel behind the drivers side wheel well, would you mind chiming in on the tank size and brand you used? I am using the Devil's Own kit, but need to order the tank. The car is currently at the shop where it will be getting tuned so I don't have access to the dimensions. Thanks.

Adam made a pretty sick meth tank for his B7. Maybe he can post some photos of it.

When I did a set up using the front...I had to use the W/W tank (benefit being the low level sensor).

There isn't room to add another tank there. Unless I am mistaken (it was a while ago), I plan to use a rear mounted tank in my current meth build/setup.

All of the Devil's Own tanks will have to be mounted in the rear of the car. And the 2,3,4 quart tanks are a waste of your time and money. In my opinion source a 1gal+ sized tank and build a custom set up for yourself. Anything less; if you actually use the system, and you'll be constantly checking and refilling the tank.

We use the Windshield Wiper tank as well. Its convenient and you get the added bonus of a dash light when you are low on meth =]

I saw the one he fabbed up. Very nice. I am not in a position to go that route.

For simplicity will likely just use the w/w tank at this point and then look at rear mounting things in the future but wanted to see what other folks had done.

Jake, I picked that kit up from you guys.

Adam, you still have the old plastic one you used initially? If so, any interest in unloading it?

If not, you have a specific make of tank in mind? Thanks.

hopping into this thread as well, I may need to order a custom meth tank from Adam's emporium after his build, 3 quarts is not cutting it with BT.

I sold it a while back. You can get the plastic 2.5 gallon tank that most meth companies sell for just over $20 from US Plastic.

    http://www.usplastic.com/mobile/item...categoryid=934

    Item 12778 for tank - $19.03
    Item 11489 for vented cap - $1.85

I've got a small snow tank sitting somewhere I'm trying to sell. I've got a 4 or 5 gallon aswell.

If Adam would be able to send me some specs on how he made his both my plastics can be sold. The small one right now can go I won't use it. Make me an offer including shipping and I can drop it in the mail this week.

Are you going to add baffles? That's a lot of open space for sloshing.

Thinking about that, wiffle balls are cheap and likely lighter then metal. May use a baffled piece about 4-6" from the fittings I'll put on it. Level sensor will be a must! And obviously putting the top on. Cut it down a few inches it's pretty tall now.

Pretty economical choice! Where do you source your methanol from?

Are wiffle balls resistant to meth? If so, that would be a good choice provided tou could get them in without melting them while welding the tank shut.

operator: I think James is planning on running wiper fluid and he's sorted out the best brand and all that.

Aluthman: from what I have read was to put wiffle balls into the tank, add water to get them covered, then set the top piece and weld. The temp of water shudnt boil of get hot enough to melt plastic? Now I am not pro just kinda winging it on this project. But theory in my head wud think it will work. They say the tank only needs 50% wiffle balls, so that shud leave enough space to weld too.
Regarding if they are resistive to methonol essentially wiffle balls are the same plastic as wiper fluid jugs. So I don't believe methonol will harm the balls once in there. Option 2 was to make a sealed door on one end, large enough to insert the wiffle balls close to the end. Then tilt them away from final section to be welded, or make a door so u can fill, and check/replace sensor if it decides to die.

James has relatives in racing who have foam I believe which he was looking into.

Ok anyone good with calculations of volume?

Inner circle is 13" diameter, outer is about 18.5" diameter, (5.5" width), and it's currently 10" height, likely 8" finished maybe but less. It is approx 3/4 of a complete cylinder.

    Anyone know these calculation?

I forgot about fuel cell foam. I would probably go that route myself. Just cut it into small cubes and add through the filler neck when the tank is complete. You will have to weld in a small metal baffle to keep the wiffle balls or foam off of the level sensor float.

Using your numbers, it should have a capacity of 3.5 gallons with a finished depth of 8".

    Water Meth tank size

This is absolutely incredible. Ryan and I were spitballing this idea a few months back, and he's making it happen.

I think I'm going to go the foam route. The same stuff they use in racing fuel applications. My theory is that it weighs next to nothing and is easy to insert after the tank is sealed. Since this tank will have two pump bungs (yes, I'm planning a two pump setup with my Torqbyte controller), it'll be easy to insert.

Ryan really is a Redneck Engineering marvel. I'm thinking of buying a secondary W/W low level sensor, and running that to the primary. This way I won't have to use one of the Torqbyte general purpose outputs, and it'll just show up on my dash if/when it gets low.

The reason for two pump bungs and two pumps, you ask? One to control post IC and post TB injection, and one to pump directly into the K03 as it's running out of its efficiency range. The idea is to keep the K03 making power further up the rev cycle, without becoming a hair dryer. Cool dense air into the turbo means it'll be cooler denser air on the way out. From my research, it would seem the K03 high on meth, will act like a K04.

Adam, I may need a few of your Torqbyte maps when you've got yours dialed in. It's just so much easier than starting from scratch.

Canadian really is a genius when it comes to this fabrication stuff. I've been looking to him for a lot of help, and he's never steered me wrong. He and I will also be working together on a steel frontal crash bar, that'll open up more surface area of your intercooler/radiator.

Also, I'll be buying drums of VP methanol. Since my brother-in-law runs a full on race team, he has a connecting. He's got 50gal of VP C16 sitting in the shop right now. I think I'll just head to Cornwall with him for his next pickup and grab a 20gal methanol drum. My biggest issue will be distilled water in those volumes.

All in, I'm thinking this tank should help combat some of the cost of 94 Octane fuel, and allow me to get stinky when I take it to the track. Now if only JHM would allow me to BETA the 100 Octane tune... Jake I'm looking at you. And yes, I'll have a fully built bottom end (pretty much exactly what Aluthman is running) and a Golf R cam. It should hold the power nicely.

    Rant/done.

I won't be able to help you with maps because I don't have any Torqbyte products. Two pumps seems like overkill for what you're doing. Why not split the one discharge and add a soleboid to the aux output to control flow?

No worries; for some reason I thought you had one. I'll have to start canvassing the forums for early adopters, or become the meth guru (Walter White?).

I thought of only using one pump, but it'll make the setup more complicated than it needs. I'm planning on triggering the post IC and post TB based on load and PSI (so I can run regular fuel on my 93 Octane tune, but also for 100+ Octane runs when I have 94 in the tank). It'll help stave off detonation with lower grade fuels.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to control the second pump, which is spraying into the turbo. I'm thinking the turbo speed sensor option might be the best way, if I can make that work somehow. If not, I'm probably going to have to go dependent on load and boost again. The idea is that that injector will only spray between 5500-7000 RPM. If I can somehow rig up a turbo speed sensor, and make it jive with the controller, it'll be much simpler; just trigger independent spray when the turbo is reaching past its peak efficiency.

Having said all of this, I'm no expert, but I'm willing to try things out. Plus, the Torqbyte guys are in Ottawa and I don't mind heading there for some insight.
