ok unfortunately im reviving this thread after i thought the problem was fixed. I cleaned the throttle body really well yesterday and it was running good all day so i thought it was just a dirty TB, today after work it happened again so i scanned with vagcom and found two new codes - p0117 engine coolant temp sensor ; signal too low and p1542 angle sensor 1 for throttle actuator ; implausible signal. Does this seem like a bad ecu? I dont have a multimeter so i haven't checked the wiring yet (going to buy one soon) and all the fuses are good, dont really know what to do at the moment.

Weird question.. But did it rain when this happened? My ecu box gasket(the lower one between the rain tray and part the actual ecu sits in) was leaking and water would leak down onto the plugs underneath my ecu going into the dash. I'd unplug those and look for corrosion.

yes it was definitely raining a bit around the time this issue started, i pulled the ecu out of the box yesterday to inspect the circuit board for damage and notice a tiny bit of liquid around the screw holes and the perimeter of the board. i will check the plugs going into dash today, thanks.
