Xpel ultimate or Suntek paint protection film

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm wanting input on Xpel ultimate or Suntek paint protection film for my glacier white metallic RS7. Any idea which is more clear - I'm doing full hood, full fenders, mirrors and front bumper. Warranty is 10 yrs with Xpel and 5 yrs with Suntek. Also any references for best pricing for buying precut pieces for self install?

    TIA

Get your a pillars, rockers, sills and bumper strip done too. Xpel would be $3k IIRC. Well worth it, along with a coating of some sort.

XPel Ultimate. Don't even bother looking at alternatives.

The 10 year warranty alone should tell you all you need to know.

Make sure the installers wrap all of the edges because on a white car dirt will collect on the film edge and it will show.
I can't stress this enough. ALL EDGES WRAPPED.

I know you are asking XPel vs. Suntek but I got Nano-Fusion on mine.
    It is great.
    Life time warranty.
I agree w Subter, edges need to be wrapped.
Most state that detailer's experience is more important then the product they're applying

I have Suntek installed on the front of my S7.

I watched my detailer install Suntek onto a $2 million custom McClaren P1. He carried both Xpel and Suntek.

Both products are good at what they do, the difference - that I could see - is that the Suntek is crystal clear, and the Xpel is slightly thicker (by [.] something of a micron) and also has a slight "orange peel" effect to it. If you compare both PPFs side by side, you can see the difference.

In the end I went with Suntek on the hood, front bumper and fenders, and the rear bumper. I then had the rest of the car coated with G-Techniq ceramic coating. My total cost, including the ceramic treatment was just over $3000 (at UK prices)

Im almost a year in, and people still have no idea there is PPF on the front of the car until I point it out.

    Suntek gets my vote

I am very happy with the XPEL ultimate on my car. It's been nearly 2 years and it still looks great.

I have suntek on my car and love it. To me Xpel has a little more "orange peel" and suntek is smoother. The 5 year warranty issue isn't a big deal as I don't think I'll have this car more than 5 years.

We'd highly recommend you have a shop install the film, as it has quite the learning curve and with the expensive pre-cut pieces, it can add up quickly if you have to fix a section...

Regardless if you go with XPEL or Suntek, find an installer that is very proficient and knows what he is doing.

Keep in mind these are what we typically see across the country and it can vary with these factors:
    - Where you live
    - Demand for paint protection film
    - Size of your vehicle

For a partial front end: This includes 18-24” up the hood and fenders, front bumper, mirrors and sometimes headlights. This ranges from $895 - $1,195.

For full front coverage: This includes the entire hood and front fenders, front bumper, mirrors and sometimes headlights. This ranges from $1,895 - $2,195.

For full car coverage: This includes every painted surface on the car possible. This ranges from $4,500 - $8,000.

When you do find an installer:

    - Be sure to ask for wrapped edges where possible (meaning that the film will wrap over the edge of the panel)
    - Visit their shop and look at some of their installations they've completed, as certain installers may do things differently
    - Exam the installation to see if the visible seams are close the edge of the body panel
    - You can ask them if they've wrapped your vehicle before, some installers may have wrapped a few, some may have wrapped a hundred...it's best to find an installer you feel comfortable leaving your pride and joy with.

I used Xpel for years on my cars. Orange peel but I lived with it.

Clarify, I did not have Xpel Ultimate. There may be less orange peel in the ultimate.

    Until

I found Suntek!!!! No orange peel and the film looks just like a fine paint job.

The Suntek is healing just like the Xpel but the shine and reflection is the clear winner in my book.

I pulled off all my old Xpel and installed Suntek on all my cars.

For ur reference...My 16 RS7 has Xpel Ultimate, almost full car wrapped (only part not wrapped is rear trunk lid and rear bumper) + Opticoat Pro PLUS coating on top of Xpel.

The Opticoat Pro PLUS provided extreme slickness to the Xpel. Have been very happy with both.

I have not noticed any "orange peel effect".

My Xpel wrap cost me $3900 (I paid all cash for discount, otherwise $4200) + Opticoat Pro PLUS exterior with Optiguard Interior for $1200.

I ended up with XPEL mainly because it's a little bit thicker (so I was told). XPEL does have a bit of orange-peel look to it when you compare to Suntek, but it's not terribly bad unless you go looking for it. I had mine done to the full front (bumper, headlights, full hood, full fenders and mirror covers) and added on the rocker panels and door cups. So far it's already proved effective as somebody decided to scratch the fender of my car so deep it ripped the XPEL, but luckily no damage to the paintwork below. No idea on costs for self-install, I had mine done in combination with OptiCoat

Thanks for the input. Installer has both Xpel and Suntek and prefers Suntek because of adhesive and better self healing properties in his opinion.

I recommend doing full doors as well. Initially I had only rockers done on my S6 but after getting my passenger doors dinged twice in parking lots I went back and got my doors completely wrapped. Hindsight is 20/20. Should have done those doors when I got the rest of the film.

I had Suntek on my GTR and was very happy with it.

If you ask any good, reputable installer, there is very little difference between xpel and suntek (minus the warranty). I would go with whichever the best installer you can find in your area is most comfortable with. That's probably the most important point.
