    Rear hatch not opening

I am at 120k B6 S4 Avant. The rear hatch is having trouble opening. Went I shut it. It stays closed but the dash indicates the the rear hatch is not closed.
When I go to open it. I can hear the latch disengaging but the hatch doesn't open.
It looks like the latch mechanism needs replaced. Anyone else have this problem?

Did you try popping it using the remote? It's happened to me before where the handle wouldn't open it but the remote did

I have tried that. I can hear the mechanism working. It just won't fully release and open.

Sounds like it's somewhat common...if you're having the same problem as these guys you need a new trunk latch actuator....

Yeah I just posted that thread a couple months ago.

The latch mechanism isn't actually the issue. I spent $100 replacing it to find out that's not the problem

Buy the trunk actuator. Mine just came in a few days ago, so I'll likely install in this weekend. I posted the part number in the thread I made

Same as much as the latch mechanism. I think there's 2 phillips screws by the warning triangle, then you just have to pop off the stupid clips that hold the inner hatch in place.

Did you notice how expensive the part is? I spent $100 on the latch, then found out the part I really needed was another $125. I was pissed. I wound up buying a used on ebay for $60. Hopefully when I install it here in a minute it works properly

Edit: go ahead and buy a new one. The used one made no difference. Either my car just has something else going on with it, or this used one is also dying. You see it try to move when you hit the button on the hatch, but it just doesn't have the power to fully release the latch. And each time you hit the trunk button after has less effect each time. By the 3rd or 4th try the actuator doesn't even move
