I can't feel anything when it switches between 4/8 cylinder mode. The only way l know is to have it on the MMI screen when showing the Efficiency window (that's in the Assistance menus)

I'm on the stock exhaust and l really can't hear it switch between 8/4 cylinder mode.

If I recall correctly, the purpose of the valve control on the OEM exhaust is for exactly that reason. As your on a non-valved Milltek it's probably exasperating the changeover noise.

You may want to have that checked out. I feel absolutely nothing and hear no changes to the exhaust when it switches back and forth. If you're feeling it happen, something isn't right.

Not necessarily. I think different people have different levels of sensitivity to it. 90% of the time I agree, I cannot feel it but there are some situations where you can. In particular you can feel it returning to 8-cyl mode if you give sharp acceleration out of cruising in 4-cyl mode. Again, most of the time you're right you do not feel it, but it may be noticeable to those few sensitive to such things.

but the exhaust is the killer, you REALLY hear it and it sounds like balls, my only real complaint with this car... i didn't get it to save gas i got it to burn gas lol

Unfortunately it is what audi is doing in order to comply with CAFE regulations :( even the new r8 has been tainted...

I have the stock 2016 S6 sport exhaust & I cannot tell when it goes to 4 cylinder mode. I even turned off the bourne structure sound with a VAGCOM.

The car has a tuned noise cancelling system which is tuned to the stock exhaust. Maybe look into a calibration mode?

The 4/8 cyclinder noise cancelling is mainly through the stereo speakers and the active motor mounts.

The bourne structure sound is mainly for extra exhaust sound in the cabin.

Cylinder on demand is featured in several platforms, A1, Q3 for example (going from 4 to 2 cylinders)....

Well i did felt/hear it often when i first got the car (i'm sensitive person :p but especially since it was second hand you spend more time listen and feeling the car if something is not right). Now with the Milltek (valved, but for some reasons the valves don't get triggered, no errors so running full open for now), i still hear it but got used to it and accepted it.
I have the Noise canceling, but no backseat and milltek so not sure how accurate that still is, but bought the car for its V8 sound so enjoying it atm.
