Q5 Xenon Bulb Replacement can you DIY?

So here is the situation. One of my D3S bulbs is out on the Driver side of my Q5. I have 2 new factory bulbs I ordered. My question is has anyone changed these bulbs out? Does it require pulling the headlight out or taking the bumper off? I've done a good amount of searching and I've heard horror stories about how big of a pain is the a** it is and the possibility of damaging the leveling feature on the headlight assembly. Audi is saying I can bring it to them and it only takes 45 - 60 mins. I'm not sure I believe them and not sure I want to risk taking it in and getting handed a $200+ bill for labor when I was quoted 60 mins. Do I risk damaging the headlight? or risk getting a 200+ labor bill from the dealer?

Anyone have suggestions? Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the info. I feel like the access panel should be able to be removed without too much effort, but I have been wrong before. I will get under the hood tonight and see what it looks like.

I havr personally DIYed headlight bulb when i bought my Q.
I remember loosening the headlight assembly to slide them out a little bit. To have easier access to the bulbs.

You might not have to but it was either sliding the headlight or taking the intake off i believe, which i thought removing headlight bolts and sliding it alil out easier

Thanks for the reply AngryQ5! Was the access panel relatively easy to access along with the headlight bolts? How long did it take you!?

If your talking about the top plastic cover yes.. tou pull it right ip and theres like 6 plastic screws to take it off ... i belive good 30 min for each headlight.

Make sure u put light alittle foot long tapes right under the headlight so it doesnt scratch your paint around the edges of the headlight.

I am talking about the bumper that meets the edges of the headlight assembly.

I didnt realize but when i was shimmying the headlight to swivel them out i got some minor scratches on the paint.

    Have fun
