Strange noise coming front front of vehicle when turning

When turning left or right, I hear a "muhhhhhh" sound coming from the front of the vehicle. I thought I was low on power steering fluid but all is good there. Also, turning the wheel at a stand still does not reproduce this sound, only when the car is in motion, so I know it's not my PS pump. I don't get any kind of vibrations or other physical feedback when the noise is present. I did a little bit of searching and it could either be a bad bearing or the pistons in the brake calipers not retracting far enough. Anyone know what the heck this is?

    Found this TSB too: http://uberlame.com/a6_tsb/Brakes/Br...w%20speeds.pdf

I think you are describing the noise mine makes when making full-lock, or near full-lock, turns in either direction. My assumption has been that it's from the differential.

It's present even when not turning near or full lock. Also, I've noticed that there are times where I don't hear it. But it definitely sounds like the sound mentioned in the TSB.

I'll go ahead and say it's probably as described in the TSB. I got my C6 in January and noticed the noise when backing out of my driveway, or sometimes just after putting it into drive pulling out of a spot.

Just got new brakes last month and the problem went away.

Probably wouldn't be too hard to replace those rings right? I checked the part number and they are $4 a piece.

I've had the same issue in 2 C6's. My '06 had it at around 100k and had all of the pads rotors replaced with no change. Also have it in my '09 even after I replaced the pads and rotors, again, I'm around 100k but noticed it around 70. The noise is more like a groan and happens well before full lock at low speeds. Especially annoying around parking lots. I have also found it's much more prevalent in higher temperatures. Basically not an issue at all in the winter, starts coming out around 70 degrees and is worse the warmer it is outside.

On the '06 I had the dealer take a look and they didn't find anything wrong but did hear the noise. Haven't had it looked at on the '09, guess I figured it's just an inherent problem. This is the first I've heard of the TSB though and it sounds spot on. Might give this a go in the next few weeks and see if it helps.

Yup, mine acts in the exact same fashion. Very noticeable at low speeds in parking lots. Only started to notice it once it got warm. I wonder how hard it is to remove those rings off of the brake pistons?

I'm digging up an old thread. This same issue has surfaced on my '09. Scraping/grinding/groanish type noise while making slow 90 degree turns.... has anyone figured out what the issue is?

Basically the consensus I came to is that it's nothing to worry about. There is a TSB that addressed this issue. The problem is the caliper piston seals, I believe they were a tad too thick which doesn't allow the piston to retract all the way. Here is all the info: http://uberlame.com/a6_tsb/Brakes/Br...w%20speeds.pdf
