How many bolts for the timing chain housing?!

So I'm finding mixed info on here. Some people say 7 others say 8. I've removed 8 so far and the cover to the timing chain and gears still isn't coming off... am I missing something? Got the 5 easy ones wrapping around the exhaust side, the 6th directly on the bottom and 2 on the intake side. Is there one more hiding from me?

Well, 7 bolts but the cover is just stuck on... any ideas on how to get it off without breaking it?

I'm sure you already got this off considering your other thread, but I was going to suggest a few taps from a deadblow hammer.

Make sure you look at the new gasket (or a pic of one) to make sure you get all of the bolts out. There is one with a bigger head one that holds on a bracket for the wiring harness that is tricky. Also the one above the coolant flange. I did three and when the boltsare out they dont require a lot of force from my experience. The cover is expensive so you dont want to break it. Also there is rings that are on the nipple protruding from the inside of the cover that are extremely fragile so yiu want to try to pull straight out and not work the thing around. They are about $70 if you break them.

I recently had issues w the one bolt nearest to driver. The housings has a shoulder on it. Bolt wud not thread. I ended up grabbing a 5mm longer bolt and it worked fine. If that helps anyone.

That's why I was taking off the housing. I had to replace 2 of the 3 rings. Thanks for the heads up tho

Hmmm. No offense but I don't know if this is good advice. I'm all about "making it work" but they should have plenty of thread to catch. The reason for my comment is because I put mine on and it seemed flush but like your saying it didn't thread. I had to move it around a bit to get it to sit right. That being said my reccomendation is to double check the placement before running to get a longer bolt.

200% agree. W the shoulder on mine I had approx 2 threads to catch. I tried everything moving it using different bolts of similar length. After a few actual days of messing around I finally measured it and realized longer bolt was the only solution. Likely the 2 threads that could have caught were prolly already slightly chewed up. With what I've done it's still properly torqued to 10Nm (I believe) and no negative effect. I will check it after approx 5000 miles just to be sure.
