Last December I had an idling issue with my 1.8T AEB. (thread for those interested)
Basically the car would die unless you kept giving it gas. And to top off the confusion, no CEL codes or VAG COM codes. Tried all kinds of ways to throw money at it- throttle body alignment (and new throttle body), crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, MAF, FPR, ECU, and probably more shit I'm forgetting.
Nothing fixed it, and I pretty much left the thread unresolved and said I was going to part out the car. (Fortunately???) I am a lazy person and never got around to doing that, so my car sat under a tarp for half of 2016. About a week ago I decided to mess around with it. Poked around a bunch, but eventually got around to removing the intake manifold, where I found a cracked gasket. $6 later and the car idles again!

Only issue I'm trying to resolve now are codes for a cylinder 2 misfire and random cylinder misfire. My guesses are:
* ICM
* coolant temp sensor (since it only misfires upon hot startup and then goes away)
* clogged fuel injectors (possibly because of gas sitting for 6+ months)
* coil packs
Even with this new problem (never really ends with B5s I suppose) I'm thrilled to have the car back and running/driving again.
