FreedomPop Sim Card for Audi Connect

A few weeks ago I purchased a sim card from FreedomPop for $0.99 to test it in my Q5 and it works great. It was activated when I received it. I installed the sim card and changed the APN on the settings in the MMI and enabled data roaming. The connection is 3G and they offer 200MB a month for free. You can earn additional free data watching some BS videos or by referring friends. When you purchase the sim card you're automatically enrolled for a plan, but you can cancel the voice plan and the additional data on their website. They're offering the sim card and a rechargeable battery pack for $0.99 shipped right now. I purchased a second sim card for my iPad.

What is the standard Q5 monthly data usage if only used for navigation?

I've only used it a few times around town to download the maps and check diesel prices. I've only used 5MB.

I really really really want traffic. I even got Sirius XM to get traffic when someone told that it was through Sirius.... nope didn't give me traffic haha. so bummed!

Whenever i get time to do this I'm going to, and see if i get traffic. I heard its through google maps now or something so u need data. blah.

Didn't your Q5 come with Sirius Traffic for like 4 or 5 years?

I may be wrong but that is where traffic comes from Sirius...the TMC light at the bottom left of the Nav screen.

I also believe Traffic is separate then Radio....I would call them and try and make some sort of package deal to get both Sirius Radio and Traffic. They are always offering specials and most the time you can wheel and deal with them to get a fairly decent discount from the regular price.

Traffic is included for 4 years. I think you need a destination to show the traffic info though. You may be able to change the view to see it.

WTF I got screwed. My traffic definitely turned off one day. and I never use the nav but could always see the traffic.

I'd call Sirius and ask them about it. It's a separate service. I never see anything on mine. It did suggest a new route because of an accident when I drove to Baltimore a few months ago. I had an F-150 that would show construction zones and accidents on the nav screen.

For some reason the setting had been turned off in the navigation settings. I am a tard. lmao.



And i confirmed that if you don't have sirius radio you will still get traffic. fantastic!

I think you press nav, info, settings, and turn traffic report on. Is that how you did it? Mine was off.

Hey all. Finally converted my '12 Avant to the 3G+ MMI system, and after a little research, came across the FreedomPop "mod". Bought myself a SIM card for $1, popped it in and voila! It works!

Only issue is that I'm getting only 2G speeds...not 3G. Does anyone have any idea why?

Mine has 2G in some rural areas, but 3G everywhere else.

200MB per month for free. If you watch videos or refer a friend you get more. I haven't come anywhere near 200MB in a month. They send emails sometimes stating that they're give unlimited data for the weekend.

It shows fuel prices, weather, you can do a search on Google for a location and select it as your destination, etc. It's Audi Connect without the service and app.

Do the Audi connect services work, ie directions from phone to car nav? It's the one feature I miss from the 6 month free trial, but not worth what att/Audi was gouging for.

FYI I was still charged after I canceled. Apparently downgrading to the "free plan" still costs $7.99/month!

I've never been charged. You have to cancel it on two different screens.

No. With Audi Connect you get more features, but you're paying for them. You can use google, check weather, fuel prices, etc with FreedomPop. Why pay for Audi Connect 3G service if you have a smartphone?

and after doing it i got a confirmation email.
This email is to inform you that your data plan has been downgraded to the free plan. To review your account and all other plans and services click here.
Please note that just your voice/data plan has been downgraded. If you have other additional services active you will need to downgrade those separately. Also, if you have multiple accounts be sure to make your plan/service request changes to each individual account.

i was offered to get another card for .01 cent which i did, but the only number that shows up is the original card purchase.
i did get an email saying that i got another card with another number but i cant seam to find where to manage that at.
i want to make sure its set to basic as well.

i see some posibilities if they work to use this in a GPS tracker for my drone and my classic car

Go to MyAccount and then plans. Click on Details and Plan Management and cancel the plan. It's in really small print on the screen, but you can do a Control or Command F to find it.
Then go to MyAccount and services. Cancel that plan too.

You need to go to your account, into 'my services', you will see premium services as your service, and downgrade. Somehow, via going through their process, you sign up for 'premium services' by default and you have to downgrade it just like the $19.99/mo service...

My MMI shows 3G and full bars, but won't perform google search or anything internet related.
