    Fouled Spark Plugs - Replace?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Over the weekend I changed all my spark plugs. I noticed that at least 3 of the plugs that were in there had oil all over them, fouled pretty bad, and some oil made it's way up to the tip of the coil packs (minor on 2, fairly present on 1). I'm guessing this is due to leaky valve cover gaskets. So I'm going ahead and ordering new VCG's to install this weekend and my question is - do you think the 3 cylinders where the plugs were fouled have fouled up the new plugs as well, and will they need replacing? I don't have a major issue purchasing 3-4 new spark plugs and replacing them, but obviously I'd hate to spend money on and replace something I just replaced a few days ago. Same question on the 2-3 coil packs where the tips had some oil on them - any thoughts if those need to be replaced as well? Or can I just clean the oil off (to the best of my ability, somehow) and replace?

Some advice is appreciated, thanks! Also, if anyone recommends other issues to take care of while I'm in there, please post. I hadn't realized getting to the spark plugs was also half-way to doing the VCG's in the first place, or else I would've taken care of both in one day.

Just give them a good clean and hit them with a wire brush. Clean the coil packs with a rag.
Don't just do the valve cover gaskets, you also need the plug gaskets.
Its also worth doing the valley pan gasket, oil check valves and oil squirter.

Thanks for the reply. I was planning on ordering the valve cover gasket set from ECS - I believe that covers all gaskets needed: https://www.ecstuning.com/ES2684748/. This link is for the Victor Reinz set but I may purchase the lower cost Elring set. Not sure what the difference is, if any. And I have completed the valley pan gasket/check valve job a couple years ago, not exactly the same work to get there as it is the VCG's, but I like where your heads at. Thanks again!
